Ok it's a threeway tie
Looking for Someone, Musical Box and Eleventh Earl of Mar. I sent Looking for Someone some love, as it's unlikely to be much appreciated.

Its a tie between "Eleventh Earl of Mar" and "Watcher of the Skies" but I voted for the latter.

Yes, although all of them are great, my vote goes to this one. But really, this is a hard choice for me..

It's got to be Dancing With the Moonlit Knight, an amazing opener from the best album Genesis made. Hackett has never played better than on this one. The best tribute I can pay is that it's right up there with Firth of Fifth and Cinema Show, and that is the ultimate compliment.

My vote goes for Dancing With the Moonlit Knight. Great song on the best Genesis album (for me, of course). Remember my first listening to Peter's singing: "Can you tell me where my country lies..." - it's a lot of years, but that feeling stays with me till these days.

Dancing With the Moonlit Knight out of those choices, but I think that Behind The Lines is the best opener they ever did.

Watcher of the Skies - I love the mellotron intro, just ahead of The Musical Box with its sense of menace. Dancing with the Moonlit Night is also excellent! In fact, every track on the list s excellent.

Dance on a Volcano & Eleventh Earl of Mar I think the other openers are kind of weak, EXCEPT MUSICAL BOX!.

All of these songs are good album openers, five of them are even great on their own. As an opening song, I vote for Watcher of the Skies.

I just realised Genesis has one of the BEST openers on any Prog albums. -Looking for Someone is as great as the album gets. -Musical Box is not THE opener, but as a song itself it's a masterpiece. -Watcher of the Skies is one of the best openers, though sometimes I feel as an opener the mellotron intro is too long. -Dancing with the Moonlit Knight is almost the same as Looking for Someone(not reffering to composition), with Peter's voice opening the album, and the song being one of the best of the entire album. -The Lamb is a very good opener, but it's just that. It has the very up-lifting chorus, that is great for an Intro to the album, but the song isn't that great. -Dance on a Volcano is powerful up to some point. -Eleventh Earl of Mar is as up-lifting you can get, though the guitar intro with Tony's keys is quite darky and somber which gives the whole album a special atmosphere, though it isn't the typical Genesis intro. I'll go with Looking for Someone.

Well as an album opener I chose Dancing with The Moonlit Knight , twasn't easy mind ya . But live, Watcher of the Skies is the all-time "entree" for vintage Genesis , almost like a call to arms , when that "epiphanic" mellotron kicks in . What goose bumps......I guess you had to live it to comprehend .
