I'm not familiar with the band,  Which category, or categories, might it fit well, do you think?

Searching some info on the band: It's listed at http://progressive.homestead.com/baskprog.html

Quote

Akelarre Asfaltuko Lorea  Xoxoa  X-11.139  (1980)

Work with some progressive tracks and good electric guitars & synthesizers, male vocals. The best tracks -"Asfaltuko lorea", "Itzuli anaia", "Sartunaiz"... forgoten the  B side.

Akelarre – Music at Last.fm

The following opinions taken from http://altea.dlsi.ua.es/~inesta/Prog/SPE/akelarre.html (the Spanish Progressive Rock Encyclopaedia where the info is taken from in the initial topic post).

Quote Band of the basque progressive, with the Xoxoa label. Like other bands that arose in the early eighties, they abandoned the progressive style very early, only their first record belong to the genre as far as I know. (José Manuel Iñesta)

............................................

I haven't had the chance to hear "Asfaltuko Lorea" but "Ari Gara", "Rockzale", "7-90" and the live album "Gauero zuzenean" are too much hard although htere's still some progresivos aproaches or close to, but it's an influence that is vanishing as the years avance. Sometimes, they sound to me close to Asfalto o a Topo but in basque, not for purists. (Diego Herrera)

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

I'm guessing by the emoticons that you're involved in those sites?  Am I right?  I'm absolutely terrible at reading emoticons.  They say they're good to makes posts less ambiguous, but sometimes the use of them confuses the hell out of me (reading behind the smilies). LOL

Love Itoiz, and I had figured it would probably be best in Prog Folk after reading stuff (note: by putting the proposed category in the title it better alerts team members.  I'll pass along the suggestions, though).

Really not involved but i know José Manuel Inesta, some time ago and he's a expert in Spanish Progressive Rock.

I agree with you in that, strictly speaking ITOIZ belongs to a sub genre called Baske Prog  because of the idiom  (Euskera and Basque), and those bands of that region (Eastsouht of Spain) are very proud of his land, in Spain they known for that.

Have you heard Errobi??

I haven't heard Errobi yet (maybe a sample at some time), though I see it has very positive reviews at this site.  One for me to check out. Thumbs%20Up

Now that I remember, there have been some interesting discussions about Baske Prog here in the past, and when you suggested it as Baske Prog, I should have automatically thought of Prog Folk (actually, I think I did, but...).   It has been suggested that we have an Ethnic Prog category that better describes music now in Prog Folk such as Baske Prog etc.

Okay, I finally got around to listening to three albums (including their debut);  I have to say that none of them sound even remotely prog to me, and only the first one even sounds a little bit folk.  The band may boast members of Errobi and Enbor, but they don't sound a bit like either of those bands IMHO.

Would like to hear opinions from others who may be more familiar with the band (including some recommendations on representative tracks or albums).
