ok, i know that this is a controversal topic, but i got some bands that i really can't listen to.

YES for example, the album magnification got a excellent instrumental work, but the vocals just pisses me off.

another band that everybody really loves is pink floyd, but i don't know why.

btw, i respect all opinions about

mm I can see with you on yes - even though I grew up with them could never properly get into them

are you talking within the prog rock realm specifically or within all genres?

You aren't alone in this, but I have never understood how someone can dislike Pink Floyd and still say they like Prog. That band has single-handedly spanned many different styles of Prog, from Symphonic to Space-Rock to Heavy Prog to Jazz-Rock. But hey, to each their own, I guess.

Maybe you just haven't given them much of a chance?

As for YES, they are the most overrated Prog band in history. I love maybe two or three of their albums, and the rest I can either take or leave.

Having said that, however, you can't really use Magnification as a reason to dislike them. Everyone knows Yes hasn't done anything extraordinary since Going For the One, so modern Yes material really won't serve as a good example of their work as a whole. I can't say I really blame you, though. Yes has long been a band that either annoys people or sets the new standfard to beat for others. It's just one of those things.

As for me, I guess The Mars Volta is a good candidate. I loved their first album, but everything else from them has been rather lackluster in my opinion. I just don't see the appeal.

What did Pink Floyd do that was jazz-rock?

Serious question, not accusatory.

There is no band that I don't like that everybody else likes.
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I know what you mean about Yes. At first I couldn't really tolerate the vocals either, but they grew on me eventually. I pay more attention to the instrumental side of things with Yes anyway.

I've never gotten into the heavier metal groups like Opeth or Between the Buried and Me, but I guess that's because the vocal style throws me off.

I've always thought the Barret years had a Jazz influence in their style and structure. But that's just my opinion, of course.
