Gojira = pure joy.
One of the best live bands I've seen, definitely. truly heavy.
In fact, don't they have a song called "The heaviest matter in the universe"?

If I could make a compilation of the heaviest tracks by Nickelback, I think that could qualify.

From the ones I own I think it might be "Dopethrone" by Electric Wizard (if we understand "heavy" as Black Sabbath´s or Atomic Rooster sounding-like).
In the brutal vein I´ll go with "Necroticism- Descanting the insalubrious" by Carcass, or "The gathering" by Testament, or maybe Sepultura´s "Roots".

These threads are always funny. Some folks mention some really earthshaking stuff, but many with a pretty mellow definition of "heavy" will chime in something completely ridiculous.
Therefore I will just choose Olias of Sunhillow. I like heavy, but its become somewhat cliche'. Heavy is the new light. |

Beat me to it ![]() Mithrandir's already suggested Burning Witch, a recommendation I'd like to second. Crushing stuff. I'm the first to suggest Wormphlegm, I think. Also Thergothon and Esoteric. |

Heaviest album ever? Hard to say. Anything by Meshuggah is an instant candidate. There's a relatively unknown (but very influential) group called Discharge that did an album in 1982 called Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing that was really heavy. Dethklok's album, even though it was kind of a parody, was also pretty heavy. I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them now.

i think people may need to adjust their definition of "Heavy" or at least explain their own definition of the word. I mean, i love disco volante but heavy is not one of the words i would use to describe that album.

Good call! The heaviest gig I ever saw was Head of David, Godflesh and God. Wow!
Avalanche Master Song from Godflesh's first album is pretty darn heavy.
Another great heavy band is Part Chimp http://www.partchimp.com/

when Godflesh first started they were pretty much paying tribute to their masters: SWANS,
I have yet to see anyone mention anything that comes close to the Swans early work yet, really though it can't be done, |
