Topic: SFAM vs. I&W Posted: January 28 2009 at 12:12 |
These are the two most acclaimed albums by Dream Theater, so I thought of making a poll to see which one is actually preferred. I voted for Scenes (my favorite album currently).

Haha, my friend and I have had this conversation since scenes came out perenially. And we both swap constantly - although truth be told, Scenes receives a bit more of our attention.

Tough choice , when I am in the mood for it SFAM is amazing. But I find Images and words to be more consistent , besides I love that early 90's sound

Images is the album that helped form progressive metal and is one of my favorite metal albums. I used to like SFAM a lot more but it's value to me has decreased bit by bit over time. Quite honestly it's not even one of my top 3 DT albums anymore. It's not a very innovative album in the sense that I&W is for me, although I still enjoy it from time to time. Images for me by many, many miles

By very far SFAM. I&W is not essential for me!

I don't even see how this is close.
Scenes from a Memory is progressive metal excellence.
Images & Words....well, a few people know my ideas on that, and based on the response I got from them, I'll not repeat them here.

It's tied right now so that's fitting for me. No vote.

Images and Words by a good margin for me. SFAM wouldn't even make my top 50 metal albums, frankly.

I&W is my favourite from their output, Scenes makes it to the better half too. Fourth I think, after Awake and Six Degrees. If the first act was as good as the brilliant second, Scenes would probably be number two on the list after I&W.

Two good albums. I vote for Images and Words which I think is the best of these two, but not by far...

Images and Words is the album that got me into prog, back in the day. SFAM is the album that after hearing it, I never bothered with Dream Theater ever again. The album is absolutely RIDICULOUS (except maybe for dance of eternity).

Images and Words has a magical atmosphere. SFAM has a few really excellent song and a bunch of carnival riff w**kery.
