Nono Belvis, one of the greatest free jazz and avant-rock guitarists from Argentina, passed away in late May.

He is best known as part of M.I.A., the ensmeble that released three fabulous progressive gems in the late 70s: “Transparencias”, “Mágicos Juegos del Tiempo” and “Cornostipicum”.

After M.I.A., he paired with drummer Kike Sanzol to record “¿Qué Están Celebrando los Hombres?”, an amazing eclectic work that combined fusion, psychedelic rock, avant-prog and free jazz. He then focused on the free jazz thing in a prolific career.

The news of his death was announced at this press link (in Spanish): http://www.clarin.com/diario/2009/06/02/espectaculos/c-00708.htm

    ¡¡Descanse en paz, Maestro Belvis!!
    ¡¡Gracias por la música!!

The other great South American 2009's prog loss from South America was Crucis' Gonzalo Farrugia, during the first week of the year.

This time, Belvis died of recurring severe heart problems.
