In most cases I'd think Wikipedia is accurate, I've never came across anything that is outright wrong or any vandalism. However I don't think they are a good source as far as labeling band's genres go.

At least not anymore...maybe 10 years ago it would have been noticed. |

But if you say Bee Gees released a Progressive Rock album called Odessa...Probably will stay for some time.
Or if you say that X band plays Rock, Pop and Progressive Rock, probably nobody will touch it unles it's a very famous band, which is not the case of Mudvayne.

If you edit it to say Ronald McDonald is the 44th president of the United States, they tend to delete it, though.

Here in PropgArchives we done it several times and posted here, you just need to check, as a fact I corrected wrong information a lot of times
I don't trust Wikipedia, except when they quote references from reliable sites.

Nice piece and great playing, but it doesn't sound progressive at all - just riffing over a simple song structure. IMO of course. |

Sounded like Math/Groove Metal to my ears.

I thought the earlier stuff was more funk-influenced metal than anything, especially L.D. 50.

There is a lot of Math-Metal in their early works, but their newest stuff is pop all the way.
I'm on the fence, personally.

I used to own their first two (as well as some of their newer I believe) and I don't remember them being particularly prog.

Please, MTV is reliable in Rap or Pop, not in Prog
And Wikipedia is a place that can be edited by anybody
None of both is reliable at all IMHO.
Don't know the band so won't say a word, but I believe that a band needs to be vastly recognized by the Prog community appart fr0om being influential AND influenced by our genre.
If other already included bands don't fulfill this requirements, it's not justification for adding other bands that shouldn't be here.

Mudvayne is indeed a very underrated band, although I haven't liked their last few albums as much as their first two. And yes, they were a prog band.

If we're going to go by ear, then I guess the majority doesn't view Mudvayne's first two albums as prog.

I'm not sure, but I'm positive that a TV station that doesn't even play music anymore and never played any prog at all, barring some Pink Floyd, and a Wiki entry that any idiot could have added are not. Have you read the metal sections of Wikipedia? They're not really...intelligent.

I don't know if they influenced actual prog (I don't see how many of the prog-related artists did either), but they were influenced by prog rock and metal bands (Emperor, King Crimson and Porcupine Tree (oddly enough)). I feel MTV and Wikipedia are accurate enough judges. If they're not accurate judges, then who is?

Prog related requires influencing the prog scene, has Mudvayne influenced actual prog?
Why do you feel that Wikipedia, the Boston Herald, and MTV are accurate judges of progressive rock at all, much less how we consider it? This is how accurate people in print journalism are about us: The Wall Street Journal in their best of 2009 rock list mentioned Insurgentes and said that Steve Wilson also fronted "The Porcupine Trees".
