Topic: Prog in TV or Radio commercials?? Posted: June 01 2010 at 00:01 |
I was a bit taken aback when a TV commercial for Chase Bank came on, with the soundtrack being a generous helping of " Your Move/I've Seen All Good People" from the Yes Album!!
My goodness, does anyone else have such a story to share? I'm looking for Prog specifically, we know that The Who sold out long ago! Cheers!

I never think The Who sold out. Would you include proto or prog related? The Beatles has getting better in an old phillips commercial and coheed and cambria had welcome home in a rock band commercial.

There was a tyre advert that had King Crimson ' 21st century schizoid man' and also a vodka advert with ELP 'Fanfare for the common man'. Can't remember the brands though.

But I don't think that's exactly what you meant...

I heard Opeth's "Death Whispered a Lullaby" on an episode of Criminal Minds. That was pretty awesome.

*sigh* It was a joke!!
However, I have seen music by The Who used for various adverts for SUVs etc. (Won't Get Fooled Again, I think).
I'm not as interested in proto-prog (Beatles) as much as the real-deal, just curious what others have heard.
This was the first time I can remember a Yes song used in this fashion!!

I believe that "Turn it on Again" by Genesis was used in a truck commercial a few years ago.

The opening music to Thick As A Brick was used for a car commercial, I think.

Am I allowed to mention Collins and In The Air Tonight for the Cadbury's advert, a smash hit on TV & YouTube?? Oh well, I thought not

Yeah that would be the up and coming 'minor' sporting event called the World Cup (the one that actually has the world participating )

I hate it when songs I like are whored out for commercials, and that one surprised me, I thought Yes would be immune to this.
I also remember a McDonalds commercial that used Hocus Pocus. And the intro to Shine on You Crazy Diamond is sometimes used on the weather channel when they're showing the local radar.

Wow, never heard that before...
While it may not be prog per se, Cadillac commercials from a few years back have forever associated Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" with their product for me. Which is a crying shame.....

There's a few websites that keep track of this stuff, please see:
If classic Yes has been used for Chase Bank, I'd say that the Rubicon has been crossed!
What's next, "Apocalypse in 9/8" for MacDonalds?? Is nothing sacred??

The day that "Apocalypse in 9/8" is associated with Maccie D's will be a very sad day indeed. Let us never allow it to happen!!
The only one I've heard is Hocus Pocus for the Nike/World Cup advert.
