I've seen it crop up occasionally on that '70's Show. I think I remember Laura Prepon's character wearing a Kansas Point Of Know Return t-shirt once.

Remember a time when the longer the song and stranger the lyrics were, the better? A time when 10 minute organ solos, 2 stories of speakers and a dusty Persian rug on the stage was normal? Go back to the era of Yes, Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd with K-Tell's "The Sound of Art: Progressive Rock of the 70s". Here's what you'll get --
'Bungle in the Jungle' 'Long Distance Runaround' 'Money' 'Follow You Follow Me' 'Lucky Man' plus treasured classics as 'The Sheriff' 'Turn it on Again' and 'Only Solitaire' Don't wait, order today and receive "This Does Go On a Bit", a free CD of rare extras and outtakes |

If I ever made a movie or TV show I would have prog songs playing in the backgrounds (like if it was in someones room or car)

According to Wikipedia, "Flash had a minor hit with "Small Beginnings" (1972, #29 Billboard Hot 100 chart)
which was featured in the movie, Record Review."
Never saw the movie, but that's cool! Great song! Here's the newly-reformed Flash playing "Small Beginnings" in practice: Ray Bennett really nails the 6-string guitar on this tune, and Colin sounds great!!

I remember a Yes song was used in the TV trailer for the Tim Burton movie "Big Fish" some years ago. Can't remember which song. I do remember then watching the movie and being disappointed that the song wasn't part of the soundtrack, though it was a pretty cool movie.

Nope, I heard it again, it was definitely Yes! Even if it were a cover, they'd get the royalty. So why not?

Actually, I think that the song from the Chase commercial is the version Robert Downey Jr (the actor) recorded in 2004 on his album "The Futurist" so I wouldn't say that Yes sold out. |

The day that "Apocalypse in 9/8" is associated with Maccie D's will be a very sad day indeed. Let us never allow it to happen!!
The only one I've heard is Hocus Pocus for the Nike/World Cup advert.

There's a few websites that keep track of this stuff, please see:
If classic Yes has been used for Chase Bank, I'd say that the Rubicon has been crossed! What's next, "Apocalypse in 9/8" for MacDonalds?? Is nothing sacred??

Wow, never heard that before...
While it may not be prog per se, Cadillac commercials from a few years back have forever associated Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" with their product for me. Which is a crying shame.....

I hate it when songs I like are whored out for commercials, and that one surprised me, I thought Yes would be immune to this.
I also remember a McDonalds commercial that used Hocus Pocus. And the intro to Shine on You Crazy Diamond is sometimes used on the weather channel when they're showing the local radar. Edited by boo boo - June 02 2010 at 20:46 |
