Topic: Between the Buried and Me EP Posted: April 13 2011 at 17:35 |
So I'm not a metalcore and thereby not a BtBaM fan. But XM just played the new EP and it's MUCH better than colors. Proggier, more mature, more varied, flows better. I might even buy it. I suspect the fans here are going to love it.
I only heard sample tracks from Misdirect and they didn't do much for me. This one is good.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Even more reason for me to buy this; if it's better than Colors than this should really be something!

Well, I am somewhat of a fan of BTBAM, I have always felt their work lacked coherence. However, with the new EP I also see that they are maturing as songwriters, and writing pieces that are not just a random array of unrelated musical sections, but rather constitute coherent pieces of music.

The Parallax is very good, though I feel the first track is a bit incoherant.
You should really give The Great Misdirect a chance Jay, songs like Obfuscation; Disease, Injury ,Madness and Fossil Genera have no problems with flow.

Their newest EP is currently the only thing I can listen by them. The rest I find absolutelly disgusting and a horrible waste of good talent.

It is interesting that you say that about the Great Misdirect, because I find that album difficult to take seriously, because of its incoherence.

I guess we're at complete opposites on that album.

Impressive band, they still need to grow on me though. The new EP sounds great.

I've been a huge fan of theirs since their first album came out. Colors blew me away though. I listened to that album non-stop when I first got it. Can't wait to hear the new EP. Hope it comes out on vinyl as well!

I haven't heard this yet, but I doubt it tops Colors. Waiting for it to ship though and very excited.

I love Colors like none other, but I think I'm in the minority here that thinks it's still a flawed album and I like Great Misdirect better.
That being said, this new EP of theirs is nothing short of incredible. If this was a full length and the quality was as consistent across the board, it would easily, EASILY be their best work. Seriously, this EP is f*cking fantastic. Go buy it.

I'm with you TGM, definitely their best album. I was also interested in the sticker on the front of the EP that said it was part 1 of 2, and that a second EP should be out later this year.

I love TGM but it's just a bit too melodic and Dream Theater-y for me to consider it a masterpiece.

Yeah, if you've seen any of the interviews with them they've said that this is the first part of a two-part concept album.
I wouldn't consider The Great Misdirect a masterpiece, I think Colors could be considered a flawed masterpiece though.
If it were possible for an EP to be considered a masterpiece, I think The Parallax could be it.

Why couldn't an EP be considered a masterpiece?

I'm wondering that, also. It has the same number of tracks as the masterpiece Close to the Edge and is only about 7 minutes shorter (I think). That said, I don't think it's on the level of Close to the Edge and most of their heavier parts sound the same to me. What Close to the Edge actually has to do with this thread: I don't know. I listened to it today.

I guess I don't have any reason why an EP couldn't be a masterpiece, actually.
