Topic: Mono vs. Godspeed You! Black Emperor Posted: December 29 2011 at 05:57 |
I have to go with Mono here just because their music has more parts that really move me. But GY!BE are definitely a close second.

I dislike Mono's climaxes. They seem to me to just be loud for the sake of being loud without any real thought...

Mono. Along with God is an Astronaut and 65daysofstatic they're my favourite post-rock band. I really like F♯ A♯ ∞ but have to be in the right mood for it. I'm largely indifferent to the rest of their material.

I'm not a big post-rock fan at all, but Mono is one of the few groups that actually makes me feel emotion.

Never heard of Mono, but I'm a big GY!BE fan, so I should probably check them out.
Actually, I first got the idea to check out GYBE from one of these polls a couple of years ago. Funny how these things occur.

GYBE! = orgasmic. Mono are generic and boring. I still like them though.

Mono do nothing for my emotions... That's what i judge all my music on.
I suggest listening to BBF3 with headphones and tell me you're not emotionally affected at all... If you're not don't bother any more with GYBE! :)

Just listened to some Mono for the first time. Quite good. It'd take a miracle for them to pass GYBE in my book though.

You both find Mono generic and boring and you both still like them?

^Yep.
Elaborating: Mono are a generic but pleasant post-rock band; while there's nothing to really grab on to, everything is enjoyable. It's fine background music or music to go to sleep to, but for concentrated listening they're boring - unlike GYBE!.

Thats interesting, I'd say it was the other way round with Mono having at least somithing for me to concentrate on whilst Godspeed are so damn slow at getting anywhere they couldnt do for anything other than background music.
