Another one-man-band type project (Backyards is the work of Marc Devidal, who played keyboards with French Crossover Prog band 'Morrigan' from 1994 until 1996: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=606, though they didn't release anything until 1999, so he doesn't get a mention in their bio on our site - more info on Morrigan here: http://www.myspace.com/morriganprogband).
The album (from 2011) is called 'Horizon'

1. So Close to (6:42)
2. Be (6:38)
3. Duchess (5:22)
4. Up & Down (6:26)
5. Sweet Rain (5:16)
6. Baden (1:27)
7. Dream on (5:24)
8. Horizon (6:07)

The album was on progstreaming.com at the beginning of November, but no longer I'm afraid. Cry

A consolation vid:

Just listened them (Had to buy the MP3, because Spotify is not in Perú)

My opinion is that they are closer to early 3 men era Genesis, and they sound Neo to me.

All the sites that sell their music say Neo but Proggnosis says Symphonic.

I believe it's a clear example of Neo Prog with Crossover tendencies but will leave this to my teammates.

Ok listening now and..... well hello Marillion!

I love it but its not as close to Symphonic as it could be, much closer to Neo. and Collins era Genesis - I have to agree. any moment I expected Phil to chime in.... better than some of Genesis more recent albums.

very relaxing instrumental music and synth soaked with a steady beat. Massive synth soundscapes throughout. almost a retro synth sound. I love track 2.... Hammond is more like it! But the beat is fairly mainstream, not as prog as ELP...

Verdict: Its instrumental Neo prog!

Hope they get on PA but it wont be in Symphonic for my ears.

Just waiting for our new esteemed member to see what he thinks I guess.

For what it's worth I'm with Iván on this one. The album is made up entirely of fairly simplistic keyboard based compositions - a bit like the band Keane, but without the vocals. I don't hear any guitars in the mix, & wouldn't even call this Neo Prog to be honest. I know ELP didn't use guitars (other than bass) and are they usually regarded as Symphonic, but they were a totally different animal altogether, with three band members instead of just one, for a start. Backyards is Crossover Prog for me, 'cos I reckon it borders on synth pop in several places (some arrangements remind me of a slowed down version of 80s band Yazoo, but without Alison Moyet's vocals.  Embarrassed

Of course your opinion is always  i worth, no matter how many times we disagreed, always respected your opinion, in this case it's nice to read your words agreeing with my modest opinion.

And Yes, in some moments reminded me of Genesis for Two Grand Pianos (Guddal and Matte) without the pomp...But I believe really deserves to be in Neo Prog.

I agree  it's a bit repetitive and incredibly derivative (Those synth drums are exasperating), but it's Prog...At least in my opinion.

Maybe a bit oriented towards Xover, but again would be a borderline case.

The vote is unanimous (Southsideofthesky voted for the first time), Symphonic won't accept Backyards.

We suggest

1.- Neo Prog
2.- Crossover.

Since a month or so Belgium has Spotify too.
Hopefully you'll get it soon, too.
