Topic: Genesis Survivor: Trespass R1 Posted: May 24 2012 at 11:28 |
Vote for your LEAST favorite!
Because there are always a few people who do it wrong
1. ???2. ???3. ???4. ???5. ???6. ???
After somebody observed that there haven't been any Genesis survivor polls yet, I thought "why not"? I left out the debut for now because I'm not familiar with it at all. I might come back to it later.

This album stands out as one of the most consistent in my entire collection, thought The Knife is a bit more exciting then the other tracks. No vote.

If you're going to do a survivor series, cover all the albums. Do FGTR after this.

Yea, I'm not too familiar with the Yes debut, but I included it in mine (though I'm only doing the classic albums). The point of these survivors is to see what the objectively best song is from given band, in this case, Genesis.
Anyway, I haven't listened to this album in a while, so I'll come back to vote.

If by 'series' you mean 'determining the best tracks from each album and putting these in a final poll', I don't plan on doing that.

I planned on doing the albums I'm familiar with (from Trespass to self-titled), but if people are interested in it, I might as well do all the albums.

Yea, and for the albums you're not familiar with, all the album info is on PA so...... At the least, if you wanted to, you could just do the albums from the debut to, say, Wind & Wuthering, or Duke, or wherever you want the cut-off album to be. Unless you do their whole discography of course...

Not a great album imo. Quite easy to vote things out for me. First "Dusk"

I can't vote, but I love this album and would probably have extreme problems choosing one song if I could :P I guess it would end up being Looking for Someone though, it took the longest to get into and in a way still feels like it doesn't really fit on the album, even if it is a great song on its own.

*smirk*
I'm going against the grain here and voting "The Knife" which never quite clicked with me as much as the rest of the album.

Doing a series of the entire body of work might also be a good way for you to get a sense for the albums you are not familiar with; you can then be a little more informed on whether you would want to acquire them or not.
I voted Looking for Someone just because Gabriel's opening vocal is a little strident to my ears. This is a great album btw.

Look in the first round of the Rush 'Moving Pictures' poll. I'll even help you narrow it down . . . look for an icon with a blue background and a picture of a catfish in a turtleneck.

I'm quite fond of post-Hackett Genesis compared to most people, so I'll definitely do those as well. But I'll separate them from the prog albums because it's obvious they wouldn't stand a chance in the finals.

The first round of the Moving Pictures survivor, I think.

I don't think I'll ever want to get WCD and CAS, based on what I've heard about them. Invisible Touch I might get eventually and FGTR I've been meaning to acquire for a while now. By the way, my vote is for Stagnation. I know that goes against the grain, but I've never been able to get into it really. It's not bad, but it doesn't excite me in any way.

Really? It seems strange that you wouldn't be interested in the last two or three yet you like the post-Hackett era. I'm just sayin', I regularly see all three of them in the $1.00 bins at our local used CD store, not to mention that they're available to be streamed from at least Spotify.
If you can get over the fact that Hackett left, and if you like the self titled album, you seem to have made that leap, then the last three are certainly worth getting in my mind. Calling All Stations could be considered their proggiest release since Duke. The other two have some great songs on them as well.
If you like 'Genesis' and 'Abacab' then I highly recommend the last three.

I've heard very very very bad things about WCD and CAS. Like "worst album ever" bad. I suppose the completionist in me will get them eventually though, especially because I love "Jesus He Knows Me".
And since they're apparently on Spotify, I guess I'll take a listen now.

This is probobly my favorite Genesis album as I love all the tracks but if I have to choose, my least favorite is Dusk, my favorite being either Looking for Someone or Stagnation.

Why so much votes for Dusk? The last three songs are the best. My first vote goes to White Mountain.
