A lot of the 70s albums in my collection are from this category. I recently tried to put together a Top 25 and these titles were at the top of the list.

I voted for Gong's `Expresso', although I'm not sure exactly which album this is I'm voting for, because I'm sure in some markets this album was retitled? Perhaps it was `Gazeuse!'? I know there was also an `Expresso 2' because of this renaming?!
Perhaps someone can explain it better than I have? Even describe the cover! However, I love the couple of Gong albums after `Shamal', so they cover my vote anyway! :) |

I have also seen Expresso listed as Gazeuse but I never researched to find out why there were two titles. The cover shows a vintage espresso machine that seems to be floating in space (this description is from memory).

That's the one I was hoping it was anyway! I truly love that album, I think I like that one and `Expresso 2' much more than `Shamal', although that's not shabby either. I guess I just prefer them because they're totally instrumental

I agree with you about Edition Especiale and wish I had more.
To Be (Germany 1976) and Kornet (Sweden 1975) are two other bands I wish I had more of.

US albums like Return To Forever, Billy Cobham, New Tony Williams Lifetime and Larry Coryell made a fan out of me. I then started looking for European bands in this style.

You have "Coryell & Mouzon", should have listed them as "The Eleventh House". A much over-looked fusion band.

Larry Coryell made four albums with The Eleventh House (I have Level One and Aspects).
He also made many solo albums usually teaming up with another musician. Back Together Again with Alphonse Mouzon for example.
I also have one called Twin House with Larry Coryell and Philip Catherine. On this album they both play acoustic guitars and play some of the hottest and fastest acoustic riffs I have ever heard.

I am sorry about the "two for one" entry, it was very early when I posted.
I have removed "Softs" but will include it along with "Bundles" in J/R/F Part Two.
I have to flip a coin between "Softs" with John Etheridge and "Bundles" with Allan Holdsworth.
I'm curious to see which one gets the most votes in Part Two.

I voted Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior because it was both my first prog album, and first jazz album.

I voted Isotope.
Interesting to see To Be on here. Can you tell me a bit more about them? They interest me because their drummer the late Rolf Kohler went on to play with Dirk Steffens on his brilliant two solo albums The Seventh Step and Tollhouse, but I've never actually heard To Be.
