This one's always difficult, and another ever changing list. I'll omit all of my prog folk guitarists, as they tend to teeter on the edge of prog folk and straight folk too much. (Steve Howe is number one but the rest is in the order I think of them) 1. Steve Howe Steve Hackett John Mclaughlin Anthony Phillips David Zackrisson Francis Lickerish Mike Oldfield Jimmy Page Andy Latimer Steve Rothery

To the list of "usual suspects" that have already been mentioned, I'd like to add Justin Hayward. And Adam Jones of Tool.

I see way too few Zappa mentions here. In my mind there's not a doubt that he was the greatest musician to ever pick up a guitar. Otherwise, I can't say I have enough of an "overview" to make an iron-clad list of favorites, but candidates include: Bill Harkleroad, Chuck Schuldiner, John McLaughlin, Steve Hackett, David Gilmour, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew and Steve Howe.

Alex Lifeson Dave Bainbridge Steve Howe Greg Massi (his guitar tone is amazing, though his "look at me!" solos on motW's first three albums get kind of annoying) Everyone who's ever played for Magma ever Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Steve Hackett Robert Fripp The guy from Russian Circles, I forget his name Me
