And no, I've added the album because it is interesting for the Prog community in general, but... look at that cover! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi,
Surprisingly enough, I have never enjoyed any of the Christmas albums out there ... which for me is not the same thing, just because someone celebrates it. The lady I loved the most in my life, asked me before Christmas, what I wanted? ... I told her ... just you ... just the chance to spend some time with you and have fun and do whatever we want ... and she was upset for 3 days ... and then on the day before, Christmas Day and the day after? ... we had a marvellous time ... and had the house all to ourselves and such ... with so many musical instruments to have fun with! But, sometimes ... it's not enough! But if she wants flowers, she gets them now from me without a comment! (I'been'trained!) I'll put on Robin Hood and his Merry Men by the Goons ... and the International Christmas Pudding story ... and it warms my cockles some a lot more than any top ten soap music for my ears!

![]() There are a few nice Christmas songs. Might be biased but Greg Lake's always does it for me (guess what? he's touring this year nearing Christmas ..wonder why that is?!) and Steelye Span's version of Gaudette is gorgeous. Not to mention The Pogues Fairy Tale Of New York which is always worth an annual spin. After that I have to shut my ears when Slade , Roy Wood and all manner of other atrocities are getting pumped out from shop stores everywhere for a month.
BTW I have ordered Keith Emerson's Christmas Album. I am intrigued to hear it. Always avoided it before but for some reason I finally gave in to the urge to get it this year.

Xmas music, usually, is used to make people happy, because they remember such great moments with their families and such, you know, all gathered on the table and all.
As for me, I don't remember one single xmas that was a full nice day, always some fight, discussions and complainnings like 'why we don't have this, or that'. And many of them was like each one in the family in his/her bedroom. So no, no musical memories. On top of all that, Simone, a brazilian singer, did the worst version of John Lennon's 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' in 1995 and since then it's the 'one song' for xmas, so, go figure ![]() |

This is the same thing that I usually reject, and not because I do not have a family or a dinner table to share with anyone ... I simply like the quiet and the "inner" space a lot more, and yes, this is a change from my previous years. I have extended family here in Vancouver with another part in Las Vegas, and they have been, all my life, the most wonderful folks I have ever met, and I have loved Christmas in Las Vegas many times, but all in all ... at 61, I'm happier alone ... and while I am "alone", I'm never lonely ... I can apply myself to playing music and next thing you know its 4 hours later ... or I can write another poem, and next thing I know it's 3 hours later ... or I can go take a nap and next thing you know it's 4 hours later. Or I might want to play some CD or other ... but unlike many people here, ALL of the music I have ever heard ... FOR THE MOST PART ... is already a part of WHO I AM ... and I am not sure that many folks here know exactly what that means ... so for me, it's like saying that everyday I hear one of these or something knew, it's ALWAYS Christmas for me ... the love, care, excitement ... I don't know how to ask for more! Sorry ... I'm not that materialistic despite having so many CD's and LP's!

Don't love it....it's OK. There are only 3 new Ian Anderson penned pieces on it; with the first track "Birthday Card at Christmas" IMHO being easily the best thing on the album. Although Martin Barre's "A Winter Snowscape" instrumental is superb and a great closer... (I think the version of this track on his "Stage Left" album is better though). Tull's Xmas album is mostly full of reworked old Tull numbers (which are IMHO not better than the originals) or reworked traditional classical instrumentals (most of these are interesting but not essential). This album is something that I play very infrequently....even at Christmas! |

Had my first listen to Keith Emerson's Christmas Album. Might be my last. Other than a nice version of Silent Night with a gospel choir its full of horrible cheap sounding snyths from the eighties. Close to unlistenable. Avoid like the plague! |
