That pretty much sum's me up too, though the bit about buying 100 albums in the last two years doesn't apply

I've been cataloging in Excel since 1999. I've been numbering them at 100 a pop since I began getting CDs. I regret not having acquisition dates on the first 500. I use recorded date rather than release date whenever possible. 2013 - 1 2012 - 7 2011 - 14 2010 - 17 2009 - 19 2008 - 23 2007 - 29 2006 - 26 2005 - 24 2004 - 29 2003 - 40 2002 - 36 2001 - 39 2000 - 31 1999 - 44 1998 - 29 1997 - 40 1996 - 36 1995 - 42 1994 - 45 1993 - 42 1992 - 33 1991 - 36 1990 - 30 1989 - 36 1988 - 30 1987 - 32 1986 - 31 1985 - 24 1984 - 35 1983 - 26 1982 - 27 1981 - 30 1980 - 39 1979 - 44 1978 - 47 1977 - 48 1976 - 53 1975 - 50 1974 - 52 1973 - 39 1972 - 31 1971 - 23 1970 - 30 1969 - 21 1968 - 15 1967 - 12 1966 - 2 1965 - 3 1963 - 1 1962 - 1 1961 - 1 1960 - 1 1959- 1 1958 - 2 1957 - 1 1955 - 1 1953 - 1 1949 - 1 1937 - 2 1920 - 1 1910 - 1 1905 - 1 1903 -1 1893 - 1 1874 - 1 1791 -1

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I've been keeping track for I don't know how many years. Release date and title only. I started too late to do acquisition date. Wish!

I started cataloging my albums in the early 90's so this exercise was easy.
1964 - 1 * 1965 - 2 * 1966 - 2 * 1967 - 16 ******** 1968 - 16 ******** 1969 - 24 ************ 1970 - 29 ************** 1971 - 26 ************* 1972 - 40 ******************** 1973 - 40 ******************** 1974 - 57 **************************** 1975 - 50 ************************* 1976 - 40 ******************** 1977 - 42 ********************* 1978 - 35 ***************** 1979 - 26 ************* 1980 - 36 ***************** 1981 - 26 ************* 1982 - 16 ******** 1983 - 25 ************ 1984 - 30 *************** 1985 - 26 ************* 1986 - 14 ******* 1987 - 21 ********** 1988 - 23 *********** 1989 - 17 ******** 1990 - 20 ********** 1991 - 26 ************* 1992 - 32 **************** 1993 - 30 *************** 1994 - 24 ************ 1995 - 24 ************ 1996 - 21 ********** 1997 - 16 ******** 1998 - 21 ********** 1999 - 22 *********** 2000 - 15 ******* 2001 - 15 ******* 2002 - 8 **** 2003 - 14 ******* 2004 - 11 ***** 2005 - 8 **** 2006 - 8 **** 2007 - 0 2008 - 4 ** 2009 - 0 2010 - 1 * 2011 - 3 * 2012 - 0 ======== Total albums - 1001
I built my album collection up in 3 distinct ways.
1st from hearing stuff on the radio and buying the album or being intrigued by the album cover art or recommendations from other people.
2nd I had this friend who was also heavy into prog and also had a large collection. We started getting together once every couple of weeks where he'd bring me 3 or 4 things from his collection and I'd bring him some things from mine. He turned me onto Hawkwind, Marillion, Kate Bush, & Greenslade and the best of the neo prog bands like IQ & Twelfth Night.
3rd in the 1990's I ran across this project on USENET (the text-based precursor to the internet) called "The Gibralter Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock". They were putting together the A-Z of every prog band out there and everyone was encouraged to help contribute band/album reviews. It was eventually a massive text document that I printed out and brought with me to record stores. I discovered Ange, Pulsar, Anekdoten, Devil Doll, Thinking Plague, Henry Cow, Terraced Garden...

Between my CD collection, records and stuff that I've ripped to my computer but are currently in storage, I'd say I have somewhere over 2000 albums. So my list is: 1961-2013: All of them. Whew! That was tough.

Wow. I'd say I've got around 1600 albums and the balk my collection would definitely be from the 1980's. Most of my CDs and such are in storage cause I recently moved back in with the parents. Lol. I've never catalogued my albums manually cause I tunes can do that for you, but I haven't imported all my CDs onto it just yet. I will in time. :)

I started cataloguing my collection on RateYourMusic two years ago and have kept it up to date since, so luckily this shan't be overly hard. I seem to recall once seeing a way to generate a graph of this on that site but can't recall how to do so, so this is from me doing it in google docs.
Top Year per decade 1957 - 1 1969 - 15 1973 - 28 1989/1989 - 19 1995 - 36 2007 - 51 2010 - 97

I once did a year list for my LP collection (numbering around 1600) but I dunno what happened to it. I usually put all my scribblings away somewhere to refer back to but I haven't this time. What I do know is that my earliest year is around 1966 up to 2012. I poached an LP from my folks called 'Big 16 Guitar Favourites' by (at the time) innovative guitarist Vinnie Bell. Just a bunch of jazz/pop standards done in an early, experimental fashion. It might date from 1965......?

My family is like a music commune. If you count all of the albums my family owns, plus the records my dad's department owns (he's a jazz studies professor), there should be 10,000, at the very least, some of them dating back to the earliest days of recording. Because of this, I actually haven't bought a ton of albums. I just
mooch off theirs. At most, I've bought about 50, the earliest being
early/mid-60s, latest being 2012 or 2013. Also, I am a bit cheap.

Hi, More than half of my record collection came before 1979. Probably two thirds. It accounts for my being able to speak about them so much. The least and leanest years were the 90's when I was broke and could not afford a whole lot!

I only own CD's, no vinyls yet, but here's my collection. I started less than 3 years ago, so it will definitely continue to build. You guys have inspired me to begin cataloging my collection too. This only took me a listen of Permanent Waves to complete though (yes that's how I measure time ). This list includes all albums, eps, and compilations, prog and otherwise. No singles though. 1968 - 1 - * 1969 - 5 - ***** 1970 - 5 - ***** 1971 - 8 - ******** 1972 - 6 - ****** 1973 - 7 - ******* 1974 - 5 - ***** 1975 - 4 - **** 1976 - 3 - *** 1977 - 4 - **** 1978 - 3 - *** 1979 - 2 - ** 1980 - 3 - *** 1981 - 3 - *** 1982 - 4 - **** 1983 - 5 - ***** 1984 - 5 - ***** 1985 - 3 - *** 1986 - 4 - **** 1987 - 3 - *** 1988 - 4 - **** 1989 - 3 - *** 1990 - 2 - ** 1991 - 2 - ** 1992 - 2 - ** 1993 - 2 - ** 1994 - 1 - * 1995 - 4 - **** 1996 - 2 - ** 1997 - 2 - ** 1998 - 3 - *** 1999 - 4 - **** 2000 - 3 - *** 2001 - 1 - * 2002 - 5 - ***** 2003 - 6 - ****** 2004 - 4 - **** 2005 - 5 - ***** 2006 - 6 - ****** 2007 - 6 - ****** 2008 - 9 - ********* 2009 - 9 - ********* 2010 - 3 - *** 2011 - 9 - ********* 2012 - 6 - ****** 2013 - 2 - **
