Who thinks we should have a PA lowest rated albums list? I think that it would be a great idea!
I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

How would you identify such albums? For example, is an album with 2,000 two star ratings more unpopular that an album with 5 one star ratings? Is an album with lots of low ratings popular and unpopular at the same time?!Confused

Why should we highlight failure. Do you think people go out of their way to produce cr*p?

Let's just point people in the direction of the great stuff out there.

My opinion.

I agree, a list like this would be difficult to calculate and almost impossible to do so accurately. Let's just stick with highlighting the best music, not the worst.

All very good points. However I think that sometimes there is a beauty that can be found in "failures".

I'd like to see that list. And those complaining about negativity: If such a list was made and you find an album there you really like. Write a review about it and help its reputation out!

It might be a useful buyer's guide - which albums to avoid when you find a cheap copy in a sale, etc.

I don't see anyone in this thread complaining

There are many bands in the 'Prog' Archives that I am amazed have made it onto the database. I tend to write reviews about albums that I like anyway, rather than choosing ones that I have listened to and hated. There are the oddexceptions obviously, and every now and then I feel the urge to point out those which I found disappointing. I'm a glass half-full kind of a guy I guess.

Ok disagreeing is probably a better word. But similar thread topics have been brought up before, and the issue many people have with the idea of a bottom list on this site is that it's too negative.

Terrible idea.

And I'll tell you why.

The world is full of idiots.

Those idiots will take as much great pleasure in forcing an album into the lowest rated chart as they do hyping albums into the highest rated.

I see nothing but bad coming from this.
What?

As much as I support the fun factor of such a thing, I do think Dean makes a good point here. Never underestimate the tw*t factor people!
If it was made possible, I figure we'd be needing even more admins to go battle these folks.

That is actually very true. The more I think about it, the worse the idea becomes. Thank you for all the feedback guys!

One problem with the page were you can use filter settings to get lists of prog albums is that it is all about "Top lists", and it's all about ratings. You shoud be able to get results in alphabetical order, and sorting on ratings should be optional. That would be more serious. PA puts too much emphasis on ratings.

A list of lowest ratings would be useful as a workaround to the fact that those albums couldn't appear in any other filter setting.

Confused How do you collate a top list without using the ratings? When there are 39,517 albums listed here how do you order the "results" in any other way than by ratings? What use is knowing the first 100 alphabetical albums? (would Aardvark's eponymous album be No. 1 or would it be ( ) by Sigur Rós?)

The only emphasis on ratings is made by the people who put too much emphasis on the charts in the first place.
What?

I think the search feature , or "Top Prog Rock Music Albums List" as it is called can be useful for exploring and finding albums and artists, but not necessarily with the intention of finding the top rated albums. I would call this feature something like "explore" or "search", rather than "top albums" but the only way to get to this page is by following the link "PA Top Prog Albums" or any similar link.

And the results are limited to 250, which leaves out the lower rated or non-rated albums.

You can browse artists from A-Z which is good , but I'm not asking to be able to browse the entire catalogue of albums in a similar way. But when using filter settings to get albums corresponding to that setting, you don't necessarily want only the highest rated albums, you want all of them.

Regarding how to sort the results, it would be nice to be able to sort on album name, or by artist, or by country. Or by rating.

Just my opinion..
