Very sad news. It would've been interesting to hear what Yes had've sounded like with him instead of Howe. A very talented guitarist.

Sad. RIP
To think, I never got the first 2 Yes albums. I'm going to have to get them now. Isn't he on any later Yes albums? |

Billy Sherwood posted this to his Facebook page:
Rest In Peace..... Peter Banks. Peter very recently played on the new "prog collective 2" project I'm writing/producing, as well as the "days between stations" record I worked on. As a Yes fan... this is sad news indeed. It was an honor to work with Peter on many productions. He will be missed !!! |

The first Flash album is very nice, and Tony Kaye also plays on that one. I found it at least as good as the first two Yes albums. |

Another one is gone. In the last months Jon Lord, Kevin Ayers....
Howe started with YES trying to sound similar to Banks. Without him Howe would have been a different guitarist and YES would have been a different band. RIP

George Mizer, his very longtime friend and manager, posted this to his Facebook page: Here is the latest news I received from police in London and the coroner : Cause of death is coronary heart disease, registered on the 7th march. No suspicious circumstances. ----- Only 65! Damn, what a loss, I kept waiting for Peter to gain some ground and record at least one more amazing record. The Billy Sherwood material will probably have some great Banks work on it. Edited by cstack3 - March 12 2013 at 16:58 |

British axeman Peter Banks, who played on the first two Yes albums,
passed away from heart failure last week. He was 65. Banks was a member
of the 1960s band The Syn which also included bassist Chris Squire.
When the band broke up in 1967 Squire and Banks went on to join psychedelic band Mabel Greer's Toyshop. After meeting Jon Anderson in a pub in 1968, Squire invited the singer to join MGT. When drummer Bill Bruford joined the group, a new band eventually emerged Yes with a lineup consisting of Anderson,Squire, Banks,Bruford and keyboardist Tony Kaye. But Banks wasn't destined to be a long-time Yes man. Having played on 1969's Yes and 1970's Time And A Word, Banks left after the second album and was replaced by Steve Howe. Shortly after leaving Yes, Banks founded the prog-rock band Flash, which released three albums. The guitarist also started a band called Empire. Banks' body was found after the guitarist failed "to show up for a recording session," according to Rolling Stone. Former Genesis guitarist, collaborator and friend Steve Hackett tweeted, "I'm sorry to hear of Peter Banks' passing a great pal and a great guitarist." --Jay Smith. http://www.melodicrock.com/ http://www.hitparade.ch/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=40962&pages= Edited by DaleHauskins - March 17 2013 at 01:54 |
