Big fan of both bands.... but I have a longer history with Magick Brother, whereas Hawkwind's 1st one just hasn't done much for me yet (my least favorite of the albums I have, which consists of all the 70s stuff and about a half dozen from the 80s to the present).  Magick Brother, on the other hand, brings back fond memories of sitting in traffic in Miami Florida with no air conditioning.  Good times.

Gong. Never cared for Hawkwind.

Hawkwind self titled definitely! There is totally outstanding album in their discography and I prefer it as one of their best ones. Not too monotonous tracks, more Psychedelia, less Space. "Be Yourself" is an excellent song!

On the other hand, "Magick Brother" is timid and lackluster debut only. Gong has far more better albums, namely their Radio Gnome trilogy.

Based on one listen only for each of these I'll go with Hawkwind's s/t debut.

Well, Hawkwind's 1st is doing a lot for me right now. Listening to it right now, and it's really hitting the spot.

I'm a massive fan of both bands but Hawkwind's first is just incredible.
I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

Gong
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

I don't like Gong before 74 or Hawkwind before 76. Both bands sounded very amatuer before those years
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Went with Gong.  I don't like any Hawkwind until '75's "Warrior on the Edge of Time" whereas I only like Gong's 1st 5 albums Wink

I'm looking forward to next week's poll - what a pity it was over a year ago!

I think Magick Brother is pretty average except for a few standout tracks.  So Hawkwind for this round.
