For some reason I can't seem to find my copy of Trespass The poll made me want to revisit the old bugger - seeing as it's been years since I last heard it. I've heard The Watch's cover of Stagnation a few times though...
And then there were three is a new acquisition that I've only spun some 5 times, so no vote from me.

Trespass easily, has many great moments, whereas ATTWT is one of my three least favorite Genesis albums.

Two of my favorites from Genesis, I'll give the edge to Trespass.

Brilliant music on both albums, but I prefer And Then There Were Three.

Both great albums, but I gotta go with TRESPASS. It's really a flawless album. Not a weak track on it and I can't say the same for WTW3. The Ballad of Big is really one of my all time favourite genesis tracks....the budding of Neo prog. Excellent song.

Quite honestly, as with most of these favourite questions, it depends on the mood I'm in. I think 'And Then' is underated. Applying any kind of critical listening it is clearly far more the precursor and template for all the subsequent 'Neo-Prog' which followed than any of their early classic material. The concise songs, airbrushed production, jaunty but rarely melodramatic or virtuosic keyboard arpeggios, mix of personal and fantasy lyrics, back-grounding of the acoustic elements...I love 'Deep in the Motherlode', 'Say It's Alright Joe', 'Burning Rope','Scenes from a Night's Dream (What a simple but powerful guitar lick!) and 'The Lady Lies' more than the poppier stuff, although 'Undertow' is a fine surging ballad. Some of these songs had much greater punch live -'Scenes' and 'Say It's Alright Joe'in particular (Although long versions of 'Follow' don't half drag on...) Guess these reservations maybe give Trespass the edge as there really isn't a track I don't like on it and love that Ant Phillips guitar.
