Dark Side, WYWH and Animals.......no contest. I would say Atom Heart and Meddle are the strongest of the first 7, again like another poster I am not a huge fan of their first 2 albums

I'm really surprised by the results. I expected the second half to be the clear winner... though I did expect the first half the get some love, given that we are in PA. However, though I do like a lot of stuff from the first albums, I must say the second is just awsome, and the band sounds so much more mature, plus, some of my very favourite albums of all are from this bunch of albums: "Wish you were Here", "Animals", "The Division Bell", plus of course I also love "Dark Side of the Moon", and to a lesser degree, "The Wall". Even "Momentary Lapse of Reason" is very good, and "The Final Cut" has it's moments. If I should rate their albums, it would go like this: - Piper at the gates of Dawn, 3* - Saucerful of Secrets, 3* - More, 3* - Ummagumma, 4* - Atom Heart Mother, 4* - Meddle, 4* - Obscured by Clouds, 3* Total: 24* - Dark Side of the Moon, 5* - Wish you were here, 5* - Animals, 5* - The Wall, 4* - The Final cut, 3* - A Momentary Lapse of Reason, 4* - The Division Bell, 5* Total: 31* So, I guess I'm a Pink Floyd fanboy...

It's obvious to me that the 2nd half contains more skillfully crafted, fully realized albums, while I actually prefer listening to the rougher, more experimental stuff, so I voted for "first half". |
it's ok, I was teasing you

First half with no doubts, Obscured By Clouds included even if the best Gilmour's solos went later.

This would blow all other options away. Anyway, it contains my 6 favourite PF albums + #10.

This. Plus, I don't like Meddle. I legitimately almost fell asleep when I first heard it. While I was running on an elliptical and weight-lifting I might add. Echoes is more ambiance than substance IMO, and that's what I perceive as the reason the album has such a high position in the top 100.

I couldn't do without either. It's close, as the score confirms. I'd have to take the second half.

I figured, but I thought it needed elaboration anyway. "Objectively" is kind of a hot button word around here, and it wasn't even quite what I meant.

Second half by far. Excepting the post-Waters material, every album from that period is amazing (yes, even The Final Cut).

Really tough call for me, picked the second half because of Animals, WYWH & DSOTM but none of the others in the 2nd half make my top 10. It's a coin toss given that mix.

Exactly the same thing for me, except I picked the 1st half.

The first halve, for me the second halve is a period of regression and production fetishism

This. There are several albums pre-DSotM that I no longer listen to. The novelty of "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" wore quite thin after a couple of listens. And that was in the 70s while I was stoned.

Can anyone think of any other bands whose 2nd half might be better than their 1st half?
