Topic: Kanye West Sampling King Crimson Posted: August 08 2013 at 20:28
I'm somewhat appalled and disgusted and terrified that such a thing could happen. In this "song", you will hear nothing worth mentioning really, except the words "21st century schizoid man". When I first read that Kanye had done it, I was in disbelief and had too check it myself. When I finally heard it, I nearly spat out my tea. It's such a shame that the newer generation is taking old untouchable classics and mangling them into their so-called "works of art". RIP culture.

So it seems he used it in more than one song. The above video I posted also contains that sample.
But seriously, how DARES he desecrate the old untouchable classic gods OH MY GOD I can't believe he thinks he is "an artist". How can modern hip-hop even be good, especially Kanye West?!!! No to mention Fripp actually LIKED the song... What did he think? It's like betraying all that is prog, all we stand for, the good music, 20 minute songs, 6 minute keyboard solos, everything.. I'm so disappointed right now... I think I'm born in the wrong generation.

I prefer the shorter prog rock songs.
And Kanye West is not an artist, unless his persona is the art and everyone that buys his albums is the joke.

I'm very curious as to what your source is that Fripp "actually LIKED the song"? Please provide a link if possible. When Fripp announced his retirement from the music business several months ago, he used the unauthorized sampling of Schizoid Man by Kanye - and it's subsequent 1,000,000 youtube hits before he was even asked permission for the songs use - as one of the examples of how his musical career had become "an exercise in futility".

Awww now I have a reason to hate Kanye that isn't everything else about him.
