Mike Oldfield's most popular albums seem to be his first few (Tubular Bells through Incantations) and the later Amarok. So which of the albums in between these do you prefer?

I have voted Platinum but I like Crisis almost the same. Anderson and Chapman add value to the B side.

Unpopular for being too popular Earth Moving is a perennial favorite. Yes, its commercial but darn good commercial.

Me too! It is one of my favorite of the many albums of his I own. Also worth mentioning for me is QE2. |

Very surprised Earth Moving has 3 votes!! I thought everyone hated that one! I personally like it, even if it's poppy.

Five Miles Out
I love all of these, but on this one, especially Orabidoo, I think he was especially innovative with new technology.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light. Through the skies, his white horse flies. To find a land beyond the night. |

Oldfield diehard fans who dislike the poppier discs are taking the easy road of criticism. If you take Earth Moving for what it is and not what it should be , its a great album, the title track has one of the finest female vocals ever recorded. Gives me shivers every time.

Five Miles Out followed by QE2 followed by Platinum. The first "side" of Platinum might be my favorite suite of all, maybe even more than Taurus 2, but maybe not, cos I love that celtic vibe, which was most prominent on QE2 and Five Miles Out
