Topic: the Colour of Spring vs Ok Computer Posted: August 19 2014 at 06:46 |
Which of these transition albums do you like the most, i find both albums having absolutly delicate chords and chord changes, which is the most defaining trait between those two albums and bands, delicate chord changes, of both original nature, and untraditional, smooth and yet so well done you get chills.

I'm biased towards Talk Talk. Loved them from the beginning, and through all their evolution. While I enjoy OK Computer, I just don't have much of a relationship with it, if that makes sense. It just doesn't quite speak to me, though it is a sonically adventurous album, and "Paranoid Android" really impressed me at the time.

OK Computer.
It wasn't until the Spirit of Eden was released that Talk Talk really took off for me - and is now a firm favourite along with Laughing Stock.

I dig individual tunes off of Radiohead albums - stuff like The Pyramid Song, Paranoid Android and the more experimental bits from Hail to the Thief. When faced with a full album I flee.
Talk Talk on the other hand makes me a happy bunny. This album is actually my fave - even surpassing the two subsequent "landmark" releases (although truth be told: it wasn't until much later these fruitful years of Talk Talk got the praise they deserved). This one is perhaps more 'pop' orientated if you merely look at song length, but there is something experimental and at the same time incredibly ethereal and smooth going down.

OK Computer. If you mentioned Spirit of Eden or Laughing it might be close for me, but OK Computer is a dear album to me.

I remember this very well. The prevailing
opinion when "Spirit of Eden" came out was "what the hell are they
thinking?" Even I was a little taken aback on first listen. And then
when "Laughing Stock" came out, it seemed like they were ironically
embracing their "fall from grace" (i.e. referring to themselves as the laughing stock of the music business, perhaps) with a proud display of iconoclasm. For me, what they were doing dovetailed nicely with my appreciation for prog, although no one considered them prog at the time. I forget where and when I first heard the term "post-rock", but it was much, much later on, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Talk Talk acknowledged as one of the "pioneers" of this style.

I think their "fame" started, or at the very least acknowledgement came about with the rise of post-rock too - especially the sticker. Back when people started using the internet to hunt down music and compare notes. I was a wee teen at the time, so I can't remember any of it though.
