oh...you don't have to tell me that ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) Does Camel fan REALLY think they are going to win that contest... after all the time I've invested in this whole contest just to get THAT rematch.
oh no.

Only thing I did was go to the Marillion FB group and the PA discussion thread and alerted people. Nothing underhanded.

The atmosphere and sweeping majesty is a far better representation of where Neo in general and Marillion specifically has gone. If you've never heard the song, make sure you get to the five minute mark for a real feel for what the genre has become. | Hmmm...I hear indistinct vocals, bland keyboards and run-of-the-mill guitar leads. Of course, my idea of "atmosphere and sweeping majesty" is probably a bit different:
Show me a similarly grand 7+ minute sequence in a Marillion song, and I'll show you several more from Tull. Sorry, just causing some competitive causticness. |
Well, you kind of hit the nail on the head there in that your idea of atmosphere is different than mine. I'm not going to denigrate Tull because I understand that a lot of people enjoy "Thick as a Brick". Me, not so much and yeah, I could produce a bunch of different bits of 'majesty' from Marillion which could produce a bunch of different Tull bits from your camp and neither of us would remotely convince the other that they're right. Somehow I just don't see myself suddenly going 'ahhh, that's where all of the Tull hoopla comes from' just as I don't see you suddenly slapping yourself on the forehead with a 'holy smokes, Hogarth is a God moment'.
I posted Neverland because Kaleigh is about as representative of Marillion as Owner of a Lonely Heart is of Yes. Just because a song is the most popular for the masses doesn't mean it's the most popular among the prog fans.

If you want chaos, just cut to the chase and do another Yes vs. Genesis poll. I won't vote, but I'll make the popcorn. ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) (Nice Ghostbusters reference, by the way)

bah.. just being a sore loser. The more so that you have to ask. Mighty Osanna wasn't even an after-thought as the Tull army marched over them. When the only thing Tull did better than Osanna.. was speak better english and become better known. ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif)
|
Sorry we bowled Osanna over, but then we had to vote our consciences. To each his (or her) own. ![Ying Yang Ying Yang](smileys/smiley33.gif) I have seen many of my favorites dumped as well in such contests. It happens to the best of us, that is, to you and I. ![Handshake Handshake](smileys/smiley42.gif) Worry not, for Tull will fall eventually and you will get your revenge.

this was a dirty one.. Songs From the Woods and Heavy Horses are 2 of my favourite all time albums .. But Misplaced Childhood transcends 'album' for me - it's an experience. Had to go with Marillion

1982 - saw Marillion way down a bill headed by Jethro Tull 1986 - saw Jethro Tull 'support' Marillion
Marillion - a pastiche (albeit a convincing one) - Tull - don't fit the progressive mould consistently - but I go for Tull.

So nice to see sanity prevailing here. One would hope for the same on the ELP poll.

I actually took a cue from the Buddha and alerted not only Eric but Mr. Tull himself, Ian Beabout.

![Clap Clap](smileys/smiley32.gif) just goes to show. Old dogs can learn new tricks. I think I am going to head back to my FB page, where I haven't been in several months but where many like me was have migrated after leaving this site. I know I have a few more ELP votes, of old friends from here that no longer post here, if needed. That has been the neat part. I haven't even had to get nasty and down and dirty. The legitimate ELP army really turned out without me doing much except just waving my pom-poms and shaking my cute ass...
