Now that I'm posting this I'm thinking maybe it's not that bad after all.

^I would call that "grinning" rather than "smiling"... Both of them look like predators that just ended their meal.

I find it rather perplexing that this one hasn't come up yet, but then again maybe the majority of PAers aren't that attuned into the Krautrock scene Such a great album, and I've actually developed a strange liking to the cover "art". It's so ugly that it's cool - if you know what I mean. Kinda like this little beauty:

HaHa! Rich boys Omega dress-up.
Never seen this cover, what lp is it? There is one picture like this on the BACK of an Omega lp I have.
........... Along same crossdresser line: Fireballet "Two two" is a good lp.
And what of the notorious Birthcontrol cover....or was that Epitaph??? .........
Many rock coverarts with open toilets were dismissed (Beggar's Banquet) or altered (Mamas & Papas).
Hunka Munka survived though.

Ohhh, I didn't listened to Guru Guru for a long time because of that coverart, so creepy. But maybe genius at the same time? Who knows. Thinking of terrible cover but really great music that comes to my mind is Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. None of there Coverart is really good and don't reflect the mood of the music very well I think, but the first 3 albums are absolutely fantastic.

Going for the One gets my vote too for great music with really, really bad cover art. When I first heard Wonderous Stories (I think off of Classic Yes), I had visions of Roger Dean art swimming through my head, and was seriously disappointed when I first saw the GFTO cover!

Same as Soft Machine. Fits the music. Really like Rune's album covers. Kim Hiorthøy's a talented guy.

King Crimson's cover art went down hill after the first four albums. Larks' Tongues is barely passable and from Starless on their covers are extremely plain. They're not terrible (OP) but plain. They're design rather than artwork. | The Lark's cover is brilliant, IMO, but I agree, some of their later album covers are, as you say, plain, especially the Beat one.

Is this just for prog? Because I got a doozy.
A lot of late '90s Southern hip hop has terrible album art and, to be fair, most of that stuff is terrible. But albums like the one pictured, "400 Degreez" by Juvenile, "Throwed Yung Playa" by Yungstar", "World War III" by Mac and just about anything from Three Six Mafia or DJ Screw actually had some deceptively clever music behind it. But lord almighty did you have to put a lot of trust in it with album art like that. The bulk of these covers were produced by a graphic design company "Pen and Pixel".
A famous story recounts how rapper and label head Master P came to use the company as the exclusive designer of No Limit's album art. See, Pen and Pixel had designed some album art depicting an exploding ice cream truck for a rapper on No Limit's rival "Cash Money" (see; Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne). As Master P's nickname was "the ice cream man" this was an unsubtle dig. So Master P went down there personally to beat them up. But he was so impressed with their work he hired them outright.
