Topic: The Dark Side of the Moon Vs Foxtrot Posted: March 27 2015 at 00:37 |
Two albums that for both so many people say, "the greatest album(s) of the progressive rock", but somehow I never fall in love with these albums (I bought the vinyl copies of both albums in seventies, but latter than their releasing dates) though I do really like some of other albums from both bands' catalogues. Well, after remastering, Foxtrot sounds much much better for these ears and I initialy voted Foxtrot. Please vote.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Dark Side. However, Foxtrot would be the closest to the top in terms of Genesis albums, while DSOTM is only my fifth favourite Floyd album.

There is no dark side in the moon, really... Matter of fact, it's all dark...

Foxtrot is my joint equal favourite Genesis album with Trick. Obviously Suppers Ready is a high point but then you have Watcher Of The Skies and Can Utilty and The Coastliners to add to it making 3 great tracks. Remarkably Can Utilty is only 5.46 minutes long according my CD cover yet it seems such a massive track in terms of scope. The rest? Time Table is a poignant song. I remember listening to that after the terrorist attack in London and it felt almost like a sad comment on that horrible event. Get Em Out By Friday is maybe the contentious track. For 8 minutes long it doesn't carry the weight that the shorter Can Utilty has but I still enjoy it and its 10 times better than the slightly similar but horribly dull The Battle Of Epping Forest. Finally a nice bit of Hackett on Horizons. So all good for me Dark Side Of The Moon never quite resonated with me as it seems to do with others. Life's a bitch then you die ( or go insane first).Yep thanks for that Rog.

Wow. 1:7 ?
Voted for Dark Side ... . Groundbreaking, more accessible, with better writing.

I think both albums have incredible music, and I strongly dislike voting against a Genesis album with so much brilliance and spine chilling moments, but Dark Side Of The Moon not only has spine chilling moments, but offers maturity in a way I have seldom seen and heard. Compositions, sound, artwork, the whole idea behind it (the 'concept' in a very loose way), the 'soulfulness' of it...
Dark Side Of The Moon gets my vote.

Dark Side of the Moon is my 4th favourite PF album.

Chalk and cheese...
Foxtrot I guess, but it's really close these days. I've warmed to DSOTM in the last ten years or so, a great deal, but I've always loved Foxtrot.

Such a hard choice. I prefer Dark Side over most of Foxtrot, but Supper's Ready is such a classic.

Prefer Foxtrot---like Dark side but it's commercial appeal and easy listening vibe are not in the same prog league....but no denying it's a landmark album in many ways.

Tough choice, both are top efforts for me. Like many, Dark Side was my first foray into progressive rock. Foxtrot was my first foray into Genesis and is for me, their best effort. In the end, I went with Dark Side as it is "the" landmark progressive album.
