Il Paese dei Balocchi - s/t
Popol Vuh - pick any album between Hosianna Mantra and Aguirre
Cocteau Twins - Victorialand
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
Bohren & der Club of Gore - Sunset Mission
Steve Hillage - Rainbow Dome Musick (sometimes - it isn't every time it works)
Haruomi Hosono - Cochin Moon

Some great ones there!  I know what you mean with Il Paese dei Balocchi, it has its moments of intensity but you can really lose yourself in that album.

For those who like the last two Talk Talk albums, the self-titled album by Mark Hollis is also really good, and maybe (even) more chillable.

I want to add a few suggestions:

Luciano Cilio - Dell'Universo Assente
Hugo Largo - Drum
Fibreforms - Treedrums
Laurent Thibault - Mais on ne peut pas rever tout le temps
Tape - Luminarium (or any of their albums actually; great band!)
Tiny Island - s/t  (a Norwegian acoustic band with the most melancholy sound and lovely use of the Hawaiian guitar)
Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session
John Fahey - The Yellow Princess

I completely forgot about this thread, which is a shame. Chill music is needed when the world goes berserk.

But thanks! I only know a couple of those you listed - I actually thought about that Thibault offering as well, so I'm pleased to see you mentioning it. Definitely going to look into the others. Tiny Island sounds interesting.

I see I missed a few obvious albums in my previous post, so here goes:

FSOL - Lifeforms
Witthüser & Westrupp - Trips und Träume
Porcupine Tree - Transmission IV
Gas - Pop
Dashiell Hedayat - Obsolete (Basically a Gong album)
Primal Scream - Screamadelica
Steve Miller Band - Children of the Future
Massive Attack - 100th Window

recently got into Gilgamesh's 2nd album That's Another Fine Tune You've Got Me Into, probably the most chilled out example of 70s prog I can think of.
The For Carnation's self titled album is very understated and mellow, but still has a dark edge. check the tracks Snoother and Moonbeams...
