For me there is a sameness to their albums that don't allow for enough variety overall. They are all uniformly good.....but after playing one or two I often have trouble differentiating between albums. They have been prolific since they came on the scene and Stolt of course does side projects like Transatlantic.
Perhaps a bit too prolific in the end.
I just listened to some tracks from Eden and Rose....good stuff , but again to my ears it could be from earlier works. It all blends into one huge album.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

There seems to be a prevailing thought that TFK's more recent stuff is somehow inferior to their earlier LP's - and this is poppycock. All twelve albums (thirteen if you count that first Stolt solo album) are fantastic in their own right.

And I have been listening to Back In The World Of Adventures all day today and I might have to revise my rating on it - upwards. It's better than I once thought. Still not their best but damned good.

It's interesting that the first and the most recent two have higher PA ratings yet on this poll Stardust and Unfold are winning.
Back In The World has always been one of my favorites by them but it was the first I heard.....yet I voted Stardust.....haven't bought any by them since Unfold.

3) Space Revolver 9/10
4) Banks Of Eden 9/10
5) Unfold The Future 8.5/10
6) Flower Power 8/10
7) Desolation Rose 8/10
8) Adam & Eve 7.5/10
9) Paradox Hotel 7.5/10
10) Retropolis 7/10
11) The Rainmaker 7/10
12) Back In The World Of Adventures 6.5/10

The Flower Kings are one of my favorite bands ever (definitely Top 5) but I don't understand all the rave reviews for the first album. Besides "Big Puzzle" it's always left me cold. And the lack of love for The Sum Of No Evil is bewildering. That album is so great. But that is one of the cool things about them - it seems every fan has a different favorite album!

From the ones I've heard, Banks Of Eden. Prefer their more modern stuff.

Banks of Eden or Desolation Rose. The band had a flying start, slumped in the '00's, and now have come back with a refined and what might be called matured sound. For me, hard to choose between the two recent ones.
