I haven't heard most of these, but my pick is the Crucis number.
Of course, my all-time pick for the best under-10-minute opener in prog history would be a toss up between Roundabout, Yours Is No Disgrace, Appena Un Po, Space Shanty or 21st Century Schizoid Man.

Haven't heard enough of these to vote. Proclamation is great (and will probably win). The Width of a Circle, The Song of Investment Capital Overseas, and Father Cannot Yell are all good. The Le Orme track is ok. It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl is the worst thing Faust has ever done to my knowledge. None of my favorite prog openers here, but I suppose that's the point.

Art Bears, Zappa and Gilgamesh - all great; others are very good - tough poll!

Some fine choices.
I'm going to choose Faust just over FZ.

Oh too many magnificent ones:
1 Can - Father Cannot Yell (I've owned it for many years and thought it was ok, but lately it has become a top five Can-favorite)
Gentle Giant -Prologue Faust - It's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl
Le Orme - Sospesi Nell'Incredibile Gong - Other Side of the Sky Embryo - Radio Marrakesch/ Orient-Express

I meant Prologue of course, although I'm not much of a fan of Three Friends.

Some of the best tracks from Art Bears, Gentle Giant and Can, but I had to vote Faust

How about Openers from the late, great Ronnie Montrose's Open Fire?

"Drag Ropes" is one of the spookiest, vibiest tracks I've ever come across, even more so with the video. Perfect opener.

It was my fourth/fifth Can album and a love at first listen album. Tago Mago was my first and it takes a lot of spin to really appreciate it.
