I just picked up an Alphonse Johnson album today (Yesterday's Dreams) mistaking him for Alphonse Mouzon, then I come here and hear he's passed? Alphonse was a gas.....he's a legend on the basis of his work on the Eleventh House albums alone.
Yeah, I understand the pop idols and guitar gods are hitting a certain age, but in 2016 they're all seem to be going before their time.....RIP Alphonse, sorry for mixing you up with the other Weather Report drummer (be well Alphonse Johnson).

If you were to tell me I would be profoundly affected by a book about rabbits, I would have told you to "silflay hraka". But Richard Adams' novel "Watership Down", an unlikely epic quest of a band of disillusioned rabbits, was one of the great fantasy books of the 1970s, and now Mr. Adams is gone. Granted, he was 96 years old, but this whole 2016 death pool thing has got me melancholy.

The baby boomers are getting old and there's no doubt about that.
Drugs and alcohol have always been a part of the entertainment industry lifestyle. Those who partied hard in their youth (and later) are going to have health issues when they get older. Carrie Fisher had substance abuse problems for most of her life and she was part of the John Belushi party crowd back in the day.

2016 isn't the summit. It's going to get worse my friends....christ, just think about the artists, musicians, and actors who are still living into their 60-80s now. No, it's going to get worse.
I watched interviews with Joni, Grace, Stills, and others lately....they look so old. I fear 2016 is but a prelude to the 60s and 70s gens passing. |

Aged though he was, this news was very sad to me. I still love Watership Down, Shardik and The Plague Dogs (the last also being a particular favourite animated film of mine). |

Loved Mind Transplant, Alphonse Mouzon's fusion album with Tommy Bolin.

I'd been singing that cloy Christmas song by Wham! all week....some of my students got into singalongs and then the worm weaves its way in. Poor George Michaels - never a big fan but it seems the press just never left the guy alone.
