It was kind of skimmed over but Butch Trucks' passing was extremely unfortunate. I'm a big fan of ABB and his drumming on some of their albums is absolutely superb.

Another extremely sad loss. By heck, I am afraid that we are approaching the age when so many artists we have admired over the years are taken away from us. Nicholls was an important part of Sabbath in that period after Ozzy left.

RIP.

A great shame. His portrayal of Caligula was masterful.

Oh, love him, such a wonderful actor.   Snowpiercer was the last thing I saw him in.

Goodbye, John.

I agree. I watched the DVD show from when I was young (my parents were fans), and assumed I just remembered it fondly because of nostalgia. I saw a few episodes recently and was amazed at how funny they still were.

Yeah those opening shots of Chicago are amazing, so real and grim.   Same with Brooklyn in Welcome Back Kotter.

Yeah we did Burnett too with the folks, great memories!

Oh I bet it is really cool to watch SofSF for you.  Total time capsule.  Probably same feel in Dallas for those folks.  I love even the blips from those shows in the openings and closings.  Like Good Times, its amazing to see the Cabrini Green and south side of Chicago in that era

Yes those were all quite boring even then, almost unwatchable, and I agree in general 60s programming was better.   But something about being home on a Saturday night and that lineup topped by Carol Burnett was a lot of fun (though even when I see the Burnett reruns they're highly edited and have lost some magic).   I think it was as much about a live communal experience that kids could enjoy with adults when there was little cable and no home-video recording, and then later SNL picked up the slack.

I've been watching Streets of San Francisco lately and loving it, having grown up here and seeing the city as it was then when I was young.

I find a lot of the 70s stuff I used to think was funny is just stale and canned now, almost obvious set ups for punch lines.  60s stuff can be like that too but much of it seems to be watchable to me now.

I can still do Mash, All in the Family just fine....but stuff like MTM, Jeffersons, Rhoda, Love Boat, Good Times....pretty rough to get through.  They make DVD humor, esp when Morey and Rose were involved, seem biting by comparison.

It was not my favorite of the '70s classics, more of an Odd Couple and Taxi fan.   Van Dyke show funnier?   Maybe, but MTM spoke to me more as a child of that strange and dynamic time.   To me the comparison would be more with Bob Newhart which has held up about the same.
