I actually do have that Melody Nelson record, I didn't realize it was a Serge Gainsbourg recording. I haven't spun it yet but I have it lined up for review in a couple of months.

Melody Lyrics are very important. There are inspired by the novel of Nabokov : Lolita.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtTQOAmWD_M The rhythmic was recorded first, then the strings, then the lyrics. It was a flop in 1971, just like "Lhomme à tête de chou" the other Gainsbourg masterpiece in 1976. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DEstQqgglk&list=PLhrglt2nmIGiw7Yx0s6V53i_0Qk5Ts_w3 |

The french singer Jacques Higelin died few days ago. Jean Claude Vannier arranged that song for him and Brigitte Fontaine. One of the best french song ever written.
