Are you looking for older or newer and what decade or era(and genre or subgenre)? Most suggestions so far seem to be pretty recent.

Most prog bands tend to have more instrumentals than vocals.
My favorite era is the late 60s early 70s for this type of stuff. Top no vocals track for me: Mumps is pretty good too!, but there is a vocal part in the 3rd quarter of the 20 min epic so I can't really include it here.

So I guess more post rock and metallish stuff then. I'm probably not your guy if that's the case. I wasn't going to take you back to the 70's but I'm not really up on more recent stuff and not within the more metallish stuff especially. Nothing wrong with it I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I have heard of bands like Scale the summit, between the buried and me(not entirely instrumental I know), Pelican, animals as leaders and endless sporadic. Also, there's Indukti(a little older but still in this millenium)and Special Providence who you might want to check out. Other than that I don't know much about the more recent stuff.

Consider the source is another one. Saw them open up for Ozric Tentacles. Great band.

The snow goose and Ommadawn are the obvious picks. Try Historie San Paroles by Harmonium

He wants newer stuff though. I agree that snowgoose is great but it probably won't appeal to someone who doesn't like classic or symphonic prog.

both Liquid Tension Experiment albums although especially the second Coloseum II made 2 great instrumental prog albums in the seventies (War Dance and Electric Savage). They were both reissued not many years ago (BTW their debut album is NOT instrumental although it does have a track called Dark Side Of The Moog which is brilliant) do I need to mention Rick Wakeman - Six Wives Of Henry VIII??! Ok I have but also check out his Criminal Record from the seventies. Jon Lord made some great solo instrumental prog albums If you have any interest in Jazz fusion then The Mahavishnu Orchestra and Billy Cobham are definitely worth checking out. Haken have released instrumental versions of most of their albums but you may already know this. If you don't then if you like Animals as Leaders then you will love this band! |

There's not much of it. It sucks that my favorite style of music is modern prog, because there's only a handful of bands that can cut it for me. Funny you mention post rick. I like the aesthetic, but finding a good post rock band to me is like finding a needle in a haystack. I keep looking but nothing sticks. If only there were more progressive post rock bands.
