Good stuff, keep them coming.  And thanks!

Are you looking for older or newer and what decade or era(and genre or subgenre)? Most suggestions so far seem to be pretty recent.

Definitely modern stuff like Leprous, Opeth, Steven Wilson, Contortionist, etc.

So I guess more post rock and metallish stuff then. I'm probably not your guy if that's the case. I wasn't going to take you back to the 70's but I'm not really up on more recent stuff and not within the more metallish stuff especially. Nothing wrong with it I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I have heard of bands like Scale the summit, between the buried and me(not entirely instrumental I know), Pelican, animals as leaders and endless sporadic. Also, there's Indukti(a little older but still in this millenium)and Special Providence who you might want to check out. Other than that I don't know much about the more recent stuff.

There's not much of it.  It sucks that my favorite style of music is modern prog, because there's only a handful of bands that can cut it for me.  Funny you mention post rick.  I like the aesthetic, but finding a good post rock band to me is like finding a needle in a haystack.  I keep looking but nothing sticks.  If only there were more progressive post rock bands.

I don't think any of the bands I mentioned are post rock actually.

If you are ok with violin in your prog metal check out indukti who are all instrumental(especially first album SUSAR which is on youtube).

For some instrumental prog metal with post rock influences, try Distant Dream.

A Triggering Myth. Every album is great, but my personal favorite is Forgiving Eden.

That's a band you don't hear much about anymore. Since you mentioned them I'll mention Djam Karet. And what the heck, Ozric Tentacles too.

The OP was looking for newer albums but it looks like this has morphed into an anything goes instrumental prog thread(which is fine by me).

Jade Warrior from Floating World until Now is all instrumental and will challenge the designation of Rock. Also early and late Mike Oldfield, as well as Anthony Phillips. If you want to push the genre, Jeff Beck has a lot of music put into the J/R Fusion category that will rock your face off. Actually, all of these suggestions challenge the nature of Rock, but isn't that what being progressive is all about? ; )

A one track album in the vein of Opeth, King Crimson and Steven Wilson.

Before I Forget is awesome. It's barely, if it all, "crossover," but it doesn't matter. It's instrumental and it kicks @$$!

Also, when it comes to "instrumental progressive rock," one of the first bands that comes to mind is Djam Karet.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one on here who knows about Djam Karet. They are probably one of the older instrumental prog bands still making music these days. To be honest I kind of lost track of them(same thing with Ozric Tentacles)but look forward to exploring them again soon.

They were newer to me, since I didn't catch them at the time they emerged.....but, yep, great sound, love them.

^DT and OT both date back to the 80's and both were talked about on the prog message boards(ie RMP in the old newsgroup days) in the 90's(especially OT). I actually remember reading about them, and this other band with what I thought was a weird name at the time called Porcupine Tree, in old prog mail order catalogs. Queue Archie Bunker(and Edith) singing "those were the days...." Tongue

I didn't learn about Djam Karet until late '90s when I got "The Devouring". I don't even recall how I learned about that album but I got a couple more albums before I went into a prog hibernation in the 2000's. I learned about Ozric Tentacles in the early 90's and got Jurassic Shift and Strangeitude. Those are still my favorite albums from them. Ed Wynne's solo album from last year is very good.

Also, for "modern" prog, I like Herd of Instinct, who are on Djam Karet's label. Their debut is probably my favorite, but their album from last year is pretty close.

For Ozric Tentacles I recenty purchased Curious Corn.. Back in the 90's I heard the two you mentioned(I also recently rebought Strangeitude)plus Arboresence. All are great imo. As for DK, I kind of lost track after A Night for Baku. I thought The Devouring was really good but I need to get some more of their earlier stuff(as well as later stuff).

Anyway, I'm not really sure what you mean by prog hiberation but I took a hiatus from prog in the mid 90's when I went to college. I rediscovered it in the late 90's through old catalogs and then soon after that online. Then before you knew it the new millenium was here and prog was getting more and more exposure to the point where now it's difficult for me to still think of it as an underground genre(I guess that's debatable).
