I bought the album and went to see them on the tour (Wembley Arena). Although it is not a bad album, it adds to the pile of evidence that bands are only truly creative and interesting in their first ten years of existence or so/in their 20s.  Yes are no exception.

Both albums? The other being ABWH?

Same here. I saw both tours and bought the albums when they first came out. I was already discovering obscure prog at that point believe it or not but Yes was maybe the first prog band I got into and will always be a special band for me no matter what kind of "rubbish" they put out. Wink
Yes the ABWH and on second thought I should back off of the liked a lot. LOL Liked yes, a lot, not so much. LOL

I’m not a fan of Rabin, and that drum pattern that opens the song is just lame. I don’t get a smidgeon ofProg In it. And I like Pop too. This song and Teakbois really rub me the wrong way. I don’t get why Heaven and Earth is universally panned ?? I did prefer Glass Hammer to it though.

Are you kidding? Teakbois is great! LOL

To be honest I never heard Heaven and Earth all the way through. I wasn't a big fan of open your eyes. Other than that I liked pretty much everything Yes has ever done.

Yes / Union isn't all that well regarded because it never really existed.

Jon Anderson (Union) and Friends with (many) members of Yes is much better.

Jon sounds great throughout.
Perhaps finding the happy medium is harder than we know.

I am with you in this. "Saving My Heart" is just too cheesy when "Owner" and "Love Will" just have really great, sad pop melodies. Also, even "Heaven and Earth" is really not my big Yes faves, it´s better than Union.

You don't have to run for cover because you are obviously joking. Wink
um, I’m not joking. I have the turquoise vinyl edition. I return to this album often, smooth as silk, well performed and joyous. It’s a bit on the Dad-Prog side of the equation, but still enjoyable.

^ Those songs are fairly decent in all their 80’s glory. Saving my Heart is rubbish. Just one of those things, I guess. Actually, Owner is a very good song.

If you think that song is rubbish I can only imagine what you think of Owner of a  lonely heart and love will find a way. LOL

Union has passable tracks. Shock to The System is the best track that line up put together IMHO. Great riff, energy, vocals, etc.
Sure Yes went already in the beginning of eighties in the big production. And they really tried to make hits and also had them (according to Phil Collins Rutherford & Banks wanted hits to Genesis already in Gabriel times). But I don´t think in their few recent albums they´ve tried to make only Yes-albums and not caring the styles of these days.

It's a bearable album. Shock to the System, Lift me Up are great songs. The rest are ok, but you can tell there was something of a lack of interest or focus by the band, when listen to as a whole.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Approximately. Just listened to it again and that's the best rating I could come up. That one little word says a mouthful.
