HOWEver, I do believe South Side Of The Sky definitely ranks as some of his most impressive work. His tone is decidedly metallic without having the sludgy quality of most 70s heavy metal players, and his fills are pure wizardry.

I agree that "South Side" and "Heart of the Sunrise" have great exposition of Steve's skills; just wanted some songs in which his playing/contributions were more central/forward.

"Turn of the Century" was the last song I cut off! But, I agree: it is awesome and gorgeous from the guitarists perspective (always thought it dragged on a bit with too much "sameness"--a very long ballad.)

I want a/THE song that showcases his diverse skills, including composition and style. "Mood for a Day" is just one dimension of Mr. Howe, agreed?

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

First vote for the Ancient, and just for his acoustic solo, one of his lost classic pieces.

I guess it's "Gates"! I never thought it'd be this much of a runaway!

He really works up a sweat with Siberian Khatru, so it's that.

It’s hard to say with Steve Howe, since he is such and accomplished guitarist/songwriter. I love his work on Yours is no Disgrace, but it’s hard to pick one above the rest.

His contributions to Yes were many and all amazing. But for me, Gates Of Delirium is the pinnacle of all.

His work on the entirety of "Close to the Edge" (both sides) is breathtaking.

His work - along with Squire's - on that intro is one of my favorite pieces of prog, let alone from my favorite piece of prog (CTTE)!

Starship Trooper is by far the best example of his stylistic range in a digestible, yet epic package. Particularly the Yessongs version. Siberian Khatru would be my runner up. All the options in TFTO and Relayer just flounder too much for my taste.

Hard to choose. probably Gates from this list but an honourable mention for To Be Over, one of his best solos imo.

Sound Chaser, and not just for the middle solo. He (and Chris) are firing on all cylinders in this piece. There are subtle things he's playing under the vocals in the beginning that just blow me...

...away.
Sort of an Americana style.
