I'm not usually posting in these threads as I rather expect to get hold of 2020 between 2021 and 2028... Anyway, Battlestations "Splinters Vol. I: Tremor" impressed me far more than I'd have expected and more than anything (prog) I have heard of 2019 or 2020 (although I'm not done with these years yet for sure).

I'd struggle to put together a list of favourite albums from 2021, so I've taken the liberty of including top albums from 2020 too, as well as one outstanding album from 2019.
Brian Auger - Introspection Downes-Braide Association - DBA 4: Halcyon Hymns Peter Frampton - Frampton Forgets the Words Steve Hackett - Under a Mediterranean Sky IQ - Resistance (2019) Dave Mason - Alone Together Again Gary Moore - How Blue Can You Get? Mostly Autumn - Graveyard Star The Tangent - Auto Reconnaissance Vangelis - From Juno to Jupiter Rick Wakeman - The Red Planet Roger Waters - Us + Them Darryl Way - Destinations Wishbone Ash - Coat of Arms (WA's best studio album since Argus! )

Found some more in this topic:
black midi - Cavalcade Black Country, New Road - For the first time Meat Mallet - A Formal Horse Hedvig Mollestad Trio - Ding Dong. You’re Dead. I just noticed while writing this that all these four clock in at 40-42 minutes, which is a length that greatly agrees with me. I have listened to Mastodon some years ago, not so much these days, but I wanted to check out their new album. It’s 1 hour 26 minutes long and simply too long for a collection of songs which aren’t that different. I had to check if I was listening to a Deluxe Edition with various bonus songs and fluff. For albums to work with that length, I prefer concept albums which has a distinct difference between two sides. Still, I prefer albums that land between 40-50 minutes. |

Tho certainly not close to the 70s, musically this year is pretty good. I expect that soon we will probably get a lot of good music from the people who spent their quaintine time learning guitar. Who knows, rock might make a big comeback in the 2020s or 2030s

I believe it was from your post I found them, so I have to check out those others too. Thanks. A little note on one band: I think "A Holy Family" is called "The Holy Family".

I'll try and review it sometime this weekend or next week I'll put it in the database of my other site Sputnikmusic as well so it can also get an audience over there... they enjoy prog quite a bit.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

Rachel Flowers - Bigger On The Inside Very talented Lady best known for her piano versions of ELP tracks and this is a lovely well put together album. Nice vocals and tons of melody. Certainly on the Crossover side of things but worth a listen.

I love the Krokofant album Fifth. They are a powerful jazz fusion outfit, think of Elephant 9 and you are not far off but even heavier. 4 tracks and 40 minutes , this was probably intended as a vinyl release but sounds great on CD anyway. Play this loud and the neighbours (if you have any , thankfully I don't that are close!) will be banging on the walls.
