   Formed in Athens, Greece in 2018, Calyces are a progressive sludge metal quartet created by guitarist/vocalist Manthos Stergiou. Organised in the wake of his band Tardive Dyskinesia's hiatus, Stergiou is joined by bassist Stelios Dogas (of death metal groups Gravebane and Necrorgasm), guitarist Giannis Golfis and drummer Alexis Stavropoulos. Calyces independently released their Alan Douches-produced debut, Impulse to Soar, digitally and on CD in 2020 (featuring Shining leader and saxophonist Jørgen Munkeby on the track "Unfair Labour").
Calyces play a style of post-metal heavily inspired by Baroness and Mastodon and will appeal to fans of Anciients, Intronaut, Kylesa, Hypno5e, Kongh and Tool.
