R.I.P. Creed Taylor.  Founder of jazz record label CTI (Creed Taylor Incorporated).  Just a few of the names who have recorded and released albums under the CTI label were, George Benson, Ron Carter, Eumir Deodato, Freddie Hubbard, Bob James, Hubert Laws and Stanley Turrentine.  CTI was known in the later 60s for its unique album covers:

^ It was Gorby who was the 'great communicator', not Reagan.  He brought some calm and reason to a nervous world.  RIP.

R.I.P. Earnie Shavers, One of Boxing's Hardest Punchers, Dead at 78.  This is for the older, die-hard boxing fan.  If you are that person then you'll remember 'Ron Lyle vs Earnie Shavers Sep 13, 1975'.  Arguably the two hardest hitting boxers (in their prime) in boxing history.

One of the last remaining old school jazz legions has died, Ramsey Lewis.  I would need an hour to cover his contribution to the music world.  It's safe to say he was a great jazz pianist not only in 'straight-ahead' jazz but also in the commercial (pop) realm also.  R.I.P.

RIP Paul Sartin, Fiddle player, Oboe player and vocalist in Bellowhead, Faustus and Belshazzar's feast died Aged 51. Too young.. a real loss to the progressive folk/ English folk-dance movement.

keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,

One of the few 'rap' artists that I liked, Artis Leon Ivey Jr., aka Coolio died yesterday at age 59.

I remember when Coolio was popular, some of my young teenaged music students would come to class with one pants leg pulled up to the knee in imitation of his look. Ha, kids.

Eric B and Rakim is the best. Rakim swings with his delivery like a jazz saxophonist.
