I saw them at Glastonbury festival, about 83-84?? great fun music!! Its weird i saw the Specials, Motorhead, Iron maiden, Peter gabriel, the Cure, Killing joke all in the same year with some mates and nobody went 'oh i wont go the that, its heavy metal or Two tone or whatever, we were all kids just pleased to see high energy live music!! people say music has got 'less tribal' but i dont recall the 'tribalism' being about whether you were into metal or reggae or punk, it was more about background and i guess, maybe politics (or perceived politics).. we were all just scruffy herberts out for some fun!LOL

I saw the Specials when i was about 16 and they were great and their first lp is an absolute gem- definitely the most interesting and inventive of the late 70's early 80's UK Ska/ Two tone bands with witty but biting socially conscious lyrics. A real influence on later outfits like Massive Attack and the UK trip-hop scene. RIP Terry.

John, I would like to agree very strongly with this. I thought The Specials were a great band, very much drivers of an important cultural movement. 63 is a shockingly young age now. RIP.

RIP Rab Noakes, Scottish singer/ songwriter and Folk musician, aged 75. A founding member of Steelers Wheel with Gerry Rafferty and Billy Connolly and prolific song-writer for artists like Lindisfarne, Fairport convention and Barbara Dickson. I saw him many times, from our local tiny folk club to the main stage at Glastonbury and Cropredy, he also supported numerous Prog acts over the years (i saw him support BJH, Camel, John Martyn etc) and recently he appeared in the 'Celtic connections sessions'. Its a shame he wasn't more widely recognised for quality of his song-writing and the influence he had (inside and outside of his native Scotland) on many musicians

Terrible, and he understandably wanted to be in the U.S.   Sadly even with New York's weapon laws it wouldn't have made a difference.

December 8, 1980. John Lennon murdered. Another senseless gun death. I remember going to the vigil in Detroit in Kennedy Square. I first met John in February of 1964 on the Ed Sullivan Show, and no death of a performer has ever effected me like Lennon's. RIP.

Not sure if you are deliberately trying to seem smart but to most she was known as Christine McVie from Fleetwood Mac. I just ordered a box set (well, reduced price of cds put together in one package) of early FM stuff.

That was her maiden name.
As well as the name she used on the first two Chicken Shack albums. CS were a British blues rock band.

I think I remember Bob.

I was a big fan of Cheers so that was sad to hear about Kirstie.
