Formed in 2018, Constellatia are a post-black metal band based in Cape Town, South Africa, founded by Wildernessking bassist/vocalist Keenan Oakes and Crow Black Sky guitarist Gideon Lamprecht. In the wake of Wildernessking's dissolution in 2017, Oakes contacted Lamprecht requesting to work together, impressed by Crow Black Sky's 2018 album Sidereal Light: Volume One. Oakes and Lamprecht comprise the stable core of Constellatia, accompanied by a cast of guest musicians across their two full-length LPs, shying away from black metal's typical lyrical misanthropy to focus on human tribulation and perserverance. The two derive inspiration from a number of bands across extreme metal, progressive rock and elsewhere such as Cult of Luna, Wolves in the Throne Room, Opeth, Agalloch, Pink Floyd, the Cure and even Beach House.
