is A-ha new wave? I don't think so, but having always loved this band, they get the vote here.

Is there still new wave in 1985? Or better said can these albums be called new wave?! I do not know.

That Sting album is great. It's a stretch to call it New Wave but who cares?

I had wondered after bringing it up in the last topic if Divinyls' What a Life would get a mention. I have heard most of that Tears for Fears album, but really am not familiar enough with these to vote. I might at some time like in the last poll, take time out to listen to music from the links. If it were me making the links, I'd be choosing a personal favourite song off each album and putting that into a personal playlist, but it's good to have different approaches and I don't think that is better (just my preference, as it makes it feel more personal to me). I'd be more likely to listen to a part of a track off each album at least before voting if that were done since my interest would be piqued not only to try something from each album but in getting a better feel for the OP's tastes. That is especially fun if the OP has to try find a preferred track from an album that doesn't appeal at first listen, but that then is more time-consuming. I have focused on doing that with tracks from albums that I cherish, and that is much easier than ones that are very new to you. Of course you have your ratings anyway and some listeners are opposed to the idea of songs, saying instead that one should always listen to the whole album. I like both approaches.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

What an excellent idea! I don't have any particular favourite songs from albums I've rated 3 stars or Lower, so I'll just pick my favourites from albums I've rated 4 stars or Higher, starting with....

The best New Wave video of all time! Thumbs Up

Contrasted with a song I Predict would be voted the worst New Wave video of all time. Thumbs Down

yeah, that about sums it up mate.... 80's pop... quite surprised there's no Kajagoogoo tbh

Before I got into Genesis, Yes and Rush, when I was 13,14 I did enjoy a bit of Ultravox, so I've voted for them in several polls, but I've got to be honest, most of the rest on here is the stuff that I spent time avoiding in our 6th form common room.... it's 70's for me, all the way.

I thought about including Kajagoogoo, but I didn't think anyone would admit to voting for them. Tongue

^ Paul, I like your contrasting videos.  Great addition!  Thumbs Up  That Sparks is so gloriously awful, well maybe without the gloriously.  He looks like a Rocky Horror Picture Show reject.

The whole thing left the stage within a few years. The Cure sounded NW in Three Imaginary Boys, as Echo & The Bunnymen did it in Crocodiles, but hardly beyond that.

Oh, the horror of it all. Is there anyone less appealing than Ron Mael dressed in stockings and suspenders? No, don't answer that. Tongue

I suppose it's a question of when does new wave reach a point where it becomes old wave. Smile

I've "always" loved these three albums:

Hunting High and Low
The Head on the Door
Songs from the Big Chair

-but I suppose none of them are actually New Wave.

It was between A-ha and China Crisis, both great albums but I listen to A-ha more often these days so that's my pick

4 stars 1985: China Crisis - Flaunt the Imperfection - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuPeG11rnEc

A favourite song I once learned how to play along to on my Yamaha keyboard, although my poor effort only flaunted my imperfections. Embarrassed
