Topic: A silly question Posted: January 10 2005 at 14:26 |
Can you imagine Jon Anderson, or Peter Gabriel, or any other prog band singer, rapping on a song of the band? Furthermore, has this happened sometime? That question arouse my mind when I read the second topic about Rap in the forum...

Yes, Roll The Bones by Rush (from the album roll The Bones).Geddy Lee's voice is treated and he raps these lyrics:
Jack - relax. Get busy with the facts. No zodiacs or almanacs, No maniacs in polyester slacks. Just the facts. Gonna kick some gluteus max. It's a parallax - you dig? You move around The small gets big. It's a rig It's action - reaction - Random interaction. So who's afraid Of a little abstraction? Can't get no satisfaction From the facts? You better run, homeboy - A fact's a fact From Nome to Rome, boy.
What's the deal? Spin the wheel. If the dice are hot - take a shot. Play your cards. Show us what you got - What you're holding. If the cards are cold, Don't go folding. Lady Luck is golden; She favors the bold. That's cold Stop throwing stones - The night has a thousand saxophones. So get out there and rock, And roll the bones. Get busy!

My sons play rap all the time, it's their choice - some of it's a bit monotonous - but some is ok when you come back from the pub sozzled.....

As far as I remember, there is a narrator voice closing the song. But to be honest I haven't hear that song closely for ages.

Rap, as a whole, is not very good in my opinion. WAY too over- produced. However, I do like a few, but not enough to really like them. But the whole rap- rock thing has spawned a few bands that I like, but rap as a whole sucks.

well i just like the lyrics and the beats, sometimes they make you laugh, sometimes they make you think. some rappers are really good at rapping tho, most are sh*t, and the beats have gotta be good.

On Keys To Asension there's a long track called That, That Is. Anderson's vocal is nothing like rap, but the lyrics are about crack addicts and inner city strife. Fair play to him for trying to tackle some different subject matter, but he sounds about as convincing as an Ice-T version of "We Have Heaven". Likewise Genesis's take on East End villains in 'The Battle Of Epping Forest' - even those RADA trained apologies in Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels had better accents. Cor blimey, it's a right royal cockney barrel of monkeys and no mistake me old china.

I agree, dre, eminem, nwa, tupac, anything G-funk (funk based beats) are the only rap that even borderlines decent...maybe mobb deep are good too.
