A-Z of Dutch Prog & Neo Prog

SOLUTION      Originally known as the "Soulution", until a Divergence of musical differences led to a split with one half of the band wanting to play soulful songs and the other half wanting to play complex pieces of Jazz-Rock. Solution therefore cooked up a Cordon Bleu plan to split the band in two at the same time as  dropping the "u" from "Soulution", thereby completing the Fully Interlocking ideal Solution on the road to Runaway success - at least in The Netherlands anyway, if not the rest of the world.  Smile

STARS & STIPS       When it comes to obscure Dutch bands, the Jazz-Rock band Stars & Stips are about as obscure as they come. In this Dutch version of a super-group with four stars of the Dutch music scene (including two members of Golden Earring) getting together for a one-off album project, I think you'll agree there are shades of Ashton, Gardner & Dyke's "Resurrection Shuffle" to be heard in the "Judas Shuffle" video below, which can't be a bad thing. Smile

SUNGRAZER       Named after a comet which flies too close to the sun at perihelion, in contrast with Sungrazer the band who inhabit the dark outer reaches of the Space Rock orbital sphere at aphelion, so time to throw a little more light on them.

SUPERSISTER     No known relation to British Canterbury Scene bands, Dutch band Supersister are more like a second cousin, twice removed. They may be a long way from the dreaming spires of Canterbury, but this is some of the most complex Canterbury Scene music you'll hear North of Hatfield. Music is supposed to be good for the Soul, so they should prescribe this music on the National Health. Be warned though: it may take several listens to truly appreciate the intricacies of Supersister's albums, which is sometimes as difficult as trying to juggle Moving Gelatine Plates, but ultimately rewarding.
