This came form longer list of male and female music artists. These are 25 male artists with one album as chosen by the album ratings at Rate Your Music. Most are in PA, but I added some faves of mine not in PA that I consider to be at least prog related. I plan on doing the part two at some time (if this had just been about my favourites then I would have gone with quite a few different artists and various different albums).

Feel free to vote for up to five albums from the list that you appreciate/like.

Kevin Ayers: Joy of a Toy
Ayreon: Into the Electric Castle: A Space Opera
Syd Barrett: The Madcap Laughs
David Bowie: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars
Glenn Branca: The Ascension
Leonard Cohen: Songs of Leonard Cohen
Miles Davis: In a Silent Way
Nick Drake: Pink Moon
Edgar Froese: Epsilon in Malaysian Pale
Peter Gabriel: Peter Gabriel 3 (Melt)
Serge Gainsbourg: Histoire de Melody Nelson
Steve Hackett: Voyage of the Acolyte
Peter Hammill: The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage
Herbie Hancock: Head Hunters
Allan Holdsworth: i.o.u.
Al Di Meola: Elegant Gypsy
Neal Morse: Sola Scriptura
Mike Oldfield: Ommadawn
Jean-Luc Ponty: Cosmic Messenger
Klaus Schulze: "X"
Sufjan Stevens: Illinois
Vangelis: Blade Runner
Scott Walker: Scott 4
Steven Wilson: The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories)
Robert Wyatt: Rock Bottom

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

Steven Wilson. Raven is my favorite Prog album post late 70s. A Top 10 album for me in the Prog World. No album since the release of Rush's Moving Pictures has been played more.

You know it's a pretty good selection of albums when Pink Moon and Ziggy Stardust (and a dozen more) isn't among your five picks.

Robert Wyatt: Rock Bottom
Miles Davis: In a Silent Way
Peter Hammill: The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage
Mike Oldfield: Ommadawn
Leonard Cohen: Songs of Leonard Cohen

Ayreon, Peter Gabriel, Scott Walker, Steve Hackett, and Syd Barrett. I'm putting everything I have on the comeback of 3x5 cards.

Thanks y'all for the comments, and I hope this is a reasonably catholic list so people don't feel left out by my perhaps not diverse enough selections. Some have lamented some names not getting as much attention as they would like, and I have received criticism when doing just my faves (which too often have been repeated) that I missed all the good and even obvious choices (obvious even when not to my tastes)

I tried to go outside of my interests, but still all these artist names were ones of many more that came to mind, and then I checked RYM to see which releases rate highly there. I left off various of my particular favourite artist names for more diversity.

It's actually going to be at least three polls of names as I am over 75. As I am just pulling these names out of my head rather than researching (hopefully a good exercise for my memory), I will be bound to miss some that I feel I should have added.
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.
