I remember really digging the Beach Boys albums when I was a lad. The sound quality was incredibly good and the songwriting was impeccable. I have fond memories later on in college of singing and playing Sloop John B with my buds. That was well before I ever realized Pet Sounds was considered Proto-Prog. RIP Brian Wilson.

An amazing life considering all his trouble.

Rest in Peace, Brian --

In three days we lost two of music's greatest legends. Yikes. I'm gonna be spending the rest of the week wondering who's going next. Sly Stone is the very spirit of funk in mortal form, and Brian Wilson was as innovative in pop as Paul McCartney.

This one hits a bit. I saw the original Bad Company at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles probably around 1999-2000. Also admired the guitar work he did with Mott. I think we will be seeing a lot of our favorite rock and rollers passing, in there 80s now.   Just the way it’s gonna be for a while. RIP

^ Very sad indeed!

Serge Fiori, a key figure in Quebec's cultural identity, died on June 24 — Quebec's national holiday. His passing on this symbolic day adds emotional weight, as he represented the voice of a generation and the spirit of Quebec music.

You can always look at : Serge Fiori's discography and related bands (Harmonium and Fiori-Séguin).

What a shock

Being right by the United States, Quebec has an unusual wealth of prog influence in its musical catalogue, even the more mainstream stuff. We recently lost Jean-Pierre Ferland, who had Tony Levin play bass for his Jaune album, and our other big names like Claude Dubois and Robert Charlebois are getting older too.

As you know, those are irreplaceable artists that had the chance to flourish due to the eccentricity of the time. Fiori is not just un musicien parmi tant d'autres.

Bonne Saint Jean, I'll be spending the night listening to those great three albums.

Sad, especially since the man was still thinking of working on other projects despite being recently sick...

Music is the refuge of souls ulcerated by happiness.
