While gathering the year's prog epics and mesmerics for 2025 (so far) I had the idea of doing polls of the Long-Playing (over 15 minutes) prog epics from each of the years of the 21st Century. Do you know them? If so, jump right into the above poll in which I've gathered 25 LP Epics from studio albums that were released in the first year of this century--that legendary year we called "Y2K"--and choose your "favorite."
I look forward to seeing a spread--and to seeing/hearing which ones you know or which ones you're excited to check out. I know all of the songs in the first half of the poll but discovered while examining the lower 30 of PA's Top Albums for 2000 that there were a lot of albums (and bands) that I did not know! I recognise, remember, or like little in the list, but Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! rules! I love the album, but ultimately it was between "Storm" and "Sleep" and I went with "Storm".
Not listed, and I would have voted that way anyway, but another favourite of mine is Bohren & der Club of Gore's "Nightwolf" off Sunset Mission. |

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Went with SB's At the End of the Day. Nice seeing tracks from Absolute Zero and Versus X, both from great albums.

I know only seven from the songs.
My pick is Taal - Barbituricos. Mister Green is an amazing album. Il Castello Di Atlante is a band I used to listen. Stava Scritto is good, but I have to re-listen to it. |

My vote went to Iona's "Songs of Ascent" suite but, as I listen to the ones I didn't know before posting the poll, I'm really loving Guy Manning's "Prognosis: The Cure." Great song! Beautiful music!

I forgot to comment on Taal -- had planned to in my first post. I used to love Mister Green and it was an early positive discovery of mine in about 2005 when looking to modernise my Prog music tastes, that said, I had forgotten the music as it has been many years since I last played it and I got into so very much other stuff after that. I was listening to so much new-to-me music back then. Listening again now, it still sounds good to these 20 years older ears. Edited by Logan - 19 hours 1 minutes ago at 18:51 |

All of the Above is one of my all time favorites. I can't figure out what it's about, though, and I'm not even sure if the lyrics have any meaning whatsoever.

Same for RE the two TAAL albums: early discoveries back in 2008 when I was new to PA and new to the MUCH BIGGER, REAL world of progressive rock music. Like you, Greg, they both stand up really well over time. |
