These 2 Camel albums have almost exactly the same rating: 3.65 for Rain Dances, 3.63 for Nude. Released 4 years apart, only Andy Latimer, Mel Collins, and Andy Ward appear on both. Which do you prefer, and why?

Rain Dances by far for me. Both jazzier and poppier than the albums prior to it, but not at all in a bad way. The ultimate "Caramel" record. I love Richard Sinclair's presence here. Both his bass playing and of course, his singing. Fantastic line-up really.
Nude, well I think it's just ok. The highlights onit feel like lesser versions of similarly styled songs you'll find on their earlier albums. Only The Single Factor is weaker from their classic era imo. |

Rain Dances I've never listened to Nude, as already the coverart puts me off and Rain Dances is challenging enough. Edited by David_D - July 26 2025 at 03:54 |

I like both but, with the benefit of hindsight and an appreciation of jazz that comes with age, Rain Dances wins. Nude has some of their finest tracks but it's not as consistent and there is a large sleep inducing chunk in the middle.

Voted Rain Dances. While I dig a couple of tracks off Nude, the overall production of that album is way too soapy for my liking.

Nude is instantly enjoyable and well put together, never got into Rain Dances which seemed to lack the magic of their classic 'trilogy' Mirage/The Snow Goose and Moonmadness. Nude was also included on the recent box set and was given the remix job. That is well worth a listen. Camel adapted better than most prog bands post seventies (The Single Factor aside). IMO.

I rate Rain Dances at around 8/10 and Nude just under 7/10, thus Rain Dances gets my vote.
